Job Summary
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) aim to be the best donation service in the world for blood, organs, tissues and stem cells. As an Associate Finance Business Partner, you will provide support to the Finance Business Partners and managers within a specific function / sub function within NHSBT on the day-to-day management of their finances and financial position.
You will support teams in the management of their budgets and be a key financial support for projects and programmes, to ensure we can continue to save lives and improve the health of people across the country. We are looking to recruit two Associate Finance Business Partners at this exciting time on a fixed term contract.
The first role is Associate Finance Business Partner in Blood Supply – Fixed Term contract for 12 months. This role will primarily be focused on supporting on a number of high-profile projects within the Blood Supply Directorate and will be the key finance point of contract for the Programmes. You will also support the Finance Business Partners in the Blood Supply Directorate on reporting, forecasting and budgeting.

The second role is Associate Finance Business Partner in Clinical Services - Fixed Term contract for 18 months. This role will be providing business partner support to the Cell Apheresis & Gene Therapies (CAGT) Directorate. You will be a member of the directorate senior management team, you will be the key finance point of contact for the directorate and will lead on reporting, forecasting and budgeting, you will also support any key projects within the directorate.
You be supported by the Divisional Business Partner for Clinical Services as well as the rest of the Clinical Services Finance Team, you will receive a full handover form the current post holder. Please contact John Spence () for further information.
Main duties of the job
As a finance professional with extensive knowledge of finance practice, you will support the meaningful lifesaving job we do in NHSBT. Your responsibilities will include
1. Being able to provide financial planning support to the senior management of a specific function / sub-function within NHSBT.
2. Supporting the following key business processes such as Budget Build, Financial Reporting/Forecasting, ABC/M Costing and Projects Financial Management in liaison with the Senior Finance Business Partner.
3. Acting as a ‘challenging sparring partner’ balancing effective business partner support with appropriate challenge, delivering performance management against agreed targets for the function / sub-function.
4. Continuously demonstrating business acumen in pursuit of the function / sub-function(s) strategic objectives, in a challenging environment.
5. Advising and supporting senior managers / management teams within NHSBT on financial matters.
You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
6. Significant experience of financial management practice
7. Experience of supporting the development of business cases utilising investment appraisal techniques and of project accounting support.
8. Experience of using an integrated financial / general ledger system and of working with costing software tools.
9. Knowledge and understanding of the general NHS environment and NHS finance policies.
10. Detailed knowledge of technical accounting standards.
11. Wide experience of computer finance packages and internet.
12. Advanced user of recognised business software packages.
13. Experience of Oracle and SAS ABM.
14. Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
Qualifications and Training
15. Recognised Professional Accountancy Qualification to Post Graduate Diploma level or equivalent demonstrable relevant experience.
16. Ability to demonstrate progress towards chartered accountancy qualification CCAB.
