Job Description We have exciting opportunities to join the Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems UK team as a Lead Certification and Airworthiness Engineer. The role would ideally be based at Havant, Hampshire, but in the hybrid era of working, location can be flexible. You will support our Chief Airworthiness Engineer and Chief Engineers within the airworthiness team working on our Merlin Helicopter, Airborne and R&D programmes. The role will involve providing advice to the engineering team during the development of our integrated mission systems, leading the airworthiness tasking and production of documentation to achieve ‘release to service’ or ‘approval for flight’ of aircraft systems and managing the approval of in-service modifications and upgrades. In addition to working on our existing portfolio of programmes, you will also support our future capabilities, business growth opportunities, and bids and proposals – this will provide you the opportunity to plan and shape the future of certification and airworthiness content on programmes. You will primarily be home based with occasional travel to the Havant offices and our customer sites in Cornwall, Crawley, Bristol and Yeovil. You will experience a wide range of certification and airworthiness activities including: Co-ordinating the production and approval of Certificates of Design, Flight Approval Documents (FAD), Military Permits to Fly and other airworthiness artefacts Representing Lockheed Martin at both senior level customer and major sub-contract technical meetings and review boards Presenting aircraft major and minor modifications to the Technical Aviation Authority to achieve air system release to service Providing technical leadership and direction with respect to Mechanical and Aeronautical Systems on the Merlin air vehicle Deriving certification and airworthiness requirements and translating business/programme requirements into appropriate technical specifications Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients and suppliers across all levels of the organisation both internally and with the customer Acting as a Deputy for the Chief Airworthiness Engineer as required, and may include being a design signatory under our DAOS certificate What’s in it for you? Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University or College in a related engineering subject (e.g Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering) and certification and airworthiness capability typically achieved through around 8-10 years of professional experience. Proven and recent experience leading aircraft certification and flight clearance activities, providing task direction and co-ordination to supporting staff. Experience compiling, reviewing and accepting flight approval and certification evidence in a complex systems integration environment. Ability to analyse technical information to determine aircraft limitations and compliance with standards Knowledge of aircraft structures, mechanical and avionics systems. Strong communication skills, and the ability to write in a clear and concise manner. Positive attitude, and willingness to get involved with tasks across the programme lifecycle. The ability to manage tasks and priorities to ensure that assigned workload is delivered when required. Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences on sometimes complex issues, topics and engineering principles and practices. Desired skills, qualifications and experience. Experience and understanding of Merlin aircraft and/or other helicopters. Experience of Airborne Mission and Surveillance Systems and Unmanned Air Vehicles. Understanding of DEF STAN 00-970, 05-123, 00-972 and/or civil EASA equivalents. Previous experience as a DAOS and/or AAOS signatory, and of the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) regulatory environment. Preparing engineering resource budget estimates for certification and airworthiness activities. Development of certification plans for bids and proposals. Chartered Engineer status.
