The Head of Procurement is responsible for developing and leading a robust and sustainable procurement strategy that aligns with Thalia Waste Management’s business goals. This role will drive commercial value, optimise supply chain operations, and ensure cost-effective procurement across the organisation. Working as a strategic partner to the operational and commercial teams, the postholder will lead on supplier relationship management, risk mitigation, and the delivery of measurable efficiency and savings.
This role will require frequent travel across our 4 core locations: North Yorkshire, Milton Keynes, Cambridgeshire and the Isle of wight.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement a comprehensive Procurement Strategy and roadmap aligned to Thalia’s corporate objectives.
* Create and manage an annual Procurement Business Plan with clearly defined milestones and KPIs.
* Partner with Operational Teams to implement the strategy effectively and embed best procurement practice.
* Continuously enhance procurement and supply chain processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
* Act as the key interface between Thalia and its supplier base, ensuring professional and compliant relationship management.
* Define, agree and oversee compliance with supplier evaluation and selection criteria, ensuring consistency across the business.
* Lead robust contract negotiations and establish commercially viable supplier agreements.
* Maintain strong supplier partnerships to drive value, service excellence, and innovation.
* Provide market insight and updates on procurement and supply chain best practice.
* Oversee management of waste recovery off takers, ensuring commercial optimisation and sustainability of solutions.
Qualifications & Professional Memberships
* Degree in Business or related discipline (desirable)
* Membership of CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) or CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport) (desirable)

Experience
* Significant experience in a senior procurement or supply chain leadership role
* Sector knowledge ideally within Waste Management, Industrial, or Manufacturing environments
* Demonstrable track record of delivering procurement-led cost savings
* Experience of managing complex tendering processes and contract law application
* Confident managing suppliers for both products and waste recovery services
* History of building ethical, transparent, and effective supplier relationships
* Demonstrates high-impact leadership with a focus on team and individual development
* Contributes to and shapes wider business strategy
* Builds a collaborative, cross-functional culture
* Champions inclusive working practices across the organisation
* Results-driven, self-motivated, and committed to continuous improvement
* Prioritises service excellence and operational efficiency
