The purpose of the role of a Lead Interior Designer is to lead and innovate the design of future vehicle interiors, blending cutting‑edge aesthetic concepts with functional engineering. This creative individual will be responsible for conceptualising and creating visually compelling, ergonomically efficient, and market‑relevant interior designs of both concept and production vehicles. They will collaborate closely with multiple Design and Engineering teams to ensure that design ideas are not only artistic but are also feasible and aligned with brand identity. By staying ahead of design trends and utilising advanced technologies, the Lead Interior Designer will play a key role in shaping the future of Mclaren interiors. What You’ll Do: Creative Development – Generate advanced concept and production‑ready interior designs through sketches, digital renderings, and 3D models.


Creative Development

* Support the refinement and development of selected design directions, retaining design values and character.
* Interpret and evolve the brand’s interior design language into exciting, functional, and usable interior spaces.


Design Execution

* Drive design quality through all project phases - from early ideation to final surface release.
* Collaborate closely with clay modelers, CAS teams, and engineering departments to refine proportions.


Technical Integration

* Ensure aesthetic intent is maintained throughout the design process.
* Guide surfaces with modelling teams for production alignment.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

* Participate in design reviews, supplier meetings, and digital/physical model evaluations.
* Act as a subject matter expert on interior design, brand identity, surfacing techniques, and industry benchmarks.
* Present design concepts and strategies internally to Design and Product Management.


Qualifications

* You have knowledge and hands‑on experience in automotive interior design, engineering, and materials.
* You can evaluate, refine, and optimise automotive interiors, taking into account aesthetics, craftsmanship and functionality.
* You stay ahead of trends inside and outside of automotive design, materials innovation and technologies.
* You can logically and efficiently break down challenges and propose innovative design solutions, whether related to Interior Design, ergonomics, or engineering.
* You have a passion for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
* You intuitively demonstrate a drive to collaborate, and ensure consistent communication.
* You work closely with the whole Design team to align on objectives and timing.
* You understand the differing requirements of concept design and production design, to ensure that interior design themes can be created to the highest standards.
* You are detail‑oriented and committed to quality, ensuring that the interior design and development processes meet both internal and external standards.
* You actively participate in demonstrating and defining the interior design standards, guiding physical and digital/VR models.
* As a Lead role, you provide guidance and technical expertise to other team members and departments. Your technical expertise is often relied upon.
* You have a passion for continuous improvement and learning, keeping up‑to‑date with emerging trends and innovations in technology, design, and the automotive market.
* You are always looking for ways to improve efficiency and workflow, showing a willingness to change and adapt.
* You are able to articulate complex design ideas, technical challenges, and solutions.
