JOB TITLE: Town Planning Policy Officer

Pay rate: £24.58 to £25.65 per hour PAYE, DOE
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working. Based in offices in Coalville - attendance in person required at office on average once a fortnight, due to the nature of the work.
The role:
On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Planning Policy Officer.
This may include in person attendance at evening meetings when the Local Plan is on the agenda.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with finalising regulation 19, Local Plan
Responding to Local Plan consultations
Preparation of evidence base
Initial drafting of Local Plan
What the client is looking for:
Proven experience in town planning, ideally within a local authority or consultancy environment
Ability to be able to undertake site visits in order to make recommendations in accordance with planning legislation and policy
Up to date knowledge of planning legislation and policy.
Strong understanding of the planning policy framework, with direct involvement in Local Plan preparation processes, particularly at the Regulation 19 stage.
Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spreadsheets, and databases to collect, manage, and analyse planning data.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience drafting complex policy documents and presenting technical information clearly.
Demonstrable experience in engaging with the public, developers, parish and town councils, elected members, and other stakeholders.
Strong project management skills, including commissioning and overseeing planning-related studies.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners to build and maintain effective working relationships.
Desirable Qualifications
Degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or working towards it
