Sonar Maintenance Training Instructor

Join our Systems Engineering Team at the Cheadle Heath site near Manchester, collaborating with UK and international Thales locations.
Purpose
The Operability Expertise cell within the Systems Engineering team manages Operator, Maintainer, and Human Factors activities for Sonar and Command and Control systems, including UI design, training, end-user engagement, and operability improvements to enhance maintainability, situational awareness, and reduce workload and crew requirements.
We are seeking an experienced Sonar Maintainer Subject Matter Expert to support domestic and export products and initiatives.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain DSAT training materials for Maintainer training
2. Deliver DSAT training to the Royal Navy
3. Review system designs from a maintainer perspective to identify potential issues
4. Innovate to improve maintainability and fault logging
5. Collaborate with research teams on algorithm development for maintenance processes
6. Conduct harbour and sea trials
7. Support HCI modelling and design for Sonar projects
8. Assist business development efforts
9. Create training documentation for new developments
10. Participate in sea trials
11. Engage with key customer stakeholders
Key Skills and Experience
Skills
* Proven Sonar maintenance experience
* Experience with Sonar Signal and Data processing
* Strong analytical and methodical skills
Desirable
* Familiarity with COTS UI prototyping tools
Experience
* Experience maintaining Sonar Systems on UK Submarine Platforms
* Minimum 10 years RN experience, including at Senior Rate level
Desirable
* Knowledge of maritime operations and/or acoustic design
Qualifications and Certification
* Foundation Degree in Electrical Engineering
