Job Summary
Sister/Charge Nurse Breast Surgery – Band 6 at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.
This role is part of the newly opened Breast Cancer Centre, bringing all services including vital reconstructive surgery together to improve patient care and experience. Applicants should have significant experience in breast surgery or other cancer or acute settings. Band 6 nurses with recent experience are particularly encouraged, as are Band 5 nurses with relevant clinical background looking for a fresh challenge.
We offer a wide range of development opportunities including Band 6 leadership pathways, in‑house and external training, and support from the practice education team. Multiple roles are available; reserve lists may be maintained.
Responsibilities
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team of registered nurses, nursing associates and health‑care support workers to deliver safe and effective care within the unit.
Collaborate closely with the Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure clinical standards of care are met and participate in audit of clinical care.
Coordinate clinical activities when required, including deputising where necessary.

Person Specification
Essential
* Registered Nurse with post‑registration qualification in Cancer/Breast Care.
* Practice Assessor/supervisor qualification or equivalent teaching qualification.
* IV therapy competency.
Experience
* Experience working as Band 5 or Band 6 in an acute cancer or surgical ward setting.
* Experience teaching others and supervising.
* Taking charge of a clinical area.
Knowledge
* Understanding of cancer patient clinical issues, common emergencies and their management.
* Knowledge of Cancer/Oncology/Breast Surgery pathways.
* Familiarity with audit and data collection.
* Understanding of the NHS Plan and current NHS issues.
Skills
* Ability to support and motivate others.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Effective prioritisation and adaptability in a fast‑changing environment.
* Venepuncture and phlebotomy skills.
* Demonstration of WeCare values in all aspects of care.
