Description Job title: Stores Operative Department: Facilities Location: The Vision Centre, Nursling, Southampton Working hours: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday A brighter future awaits you Job Summary To support the onsite Facilities and site operations teams by ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient handling of all goods, mail, and deliveries across the site. The role is responsible for warehouse control, receipt and secure storage of goods, communication with end users, and the safe operation of forklift trucks and site goods barriers in accordance with Facilities Management policies. Essential Functions & Accountabilities Goods, Deliveries and Mail Handling Collect all mail, parcels, and deliveries from Reception in line with site procedures. Receive, check, and log all incoming goods in accordance with FM and site security controls. Store goods securely within designated warehouse or holding areas. Notify end users when goods are available and manage controlled release for collection. Prepare and dispatch outgoing goods and returns as required. Ensure all delivery documentation is completed accurately and retained for audit purposes. Warehouse and Stores Operations Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready warehouse environment. Store materials safely and correctly in allocated locations. Carry out regular stock checks and support scheduled stock takes. Manage FM consumables, tools, and spare parts effectively. Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained in all goods-in and storage areas. Site Access, Barriers and Logistics Open, operate, and maintain goods barriers to support safe delivery access. Control loading bay activities to ensure safe vehicle and pedestrian movement. Liaise with delivery drivers, contractors, and Reception staff in line with site rules. Prevent unauthorised access to FM-controlled areas. Equipment Operation and Maintenance Safely operate forklift trucks and pallet trucks in accordance with a valid licence and site rules. Carry out daily pre-use checks on forklifts and warehouse equipment. Report defects, damage, or maintenance issues via FM reporting or CAFM systems. Health, Safety and Compliance Comply fully with Health & Safety legislation, site rules, and FM policies. Follow risk assessments, method statements, and manual handling procedures. Report accidents, near misses, and hazards promptly. Support audits, inspections, and compliance reviews. Records, Systems and CAFM Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing goods. Update FM logs, CAFM systems, and records as required. Ensure documentation is accurate, traceable, and audit compliant. Full JD on request Experience/Education: Five years in relevant activity/discipline Ideally some knowledge of medical device or pharmaceuticals production and facilities. Valid counterbalance forklift truck license (mandatory). Experience working in a warehouse, stores, or Facilities Management environment. Confident operating pallet trucks and manual handling equipment. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Basic IT skills for FM systems and record keeping. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling tasks. Full UK driving license Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Reliable, punctual and professional. Proactive, hands-on approach and customer focussed.
