About the Role

Are you passionate about working in mental health? Do you have experience using recovery focused interventions? The George Street project is a 24/7 mental health care at home and housing support service. We support people living with severe and enduring mental health conditions to live fulfilled lives and achieve their goals by providing emotional, social and practical support.

This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to make a difference to peoples’ lives. The successful candidate will play an important role in providing a person centred approach, by utilising recovery focused interventions to support individuals to develop the skills and positive support networks required to live an independent life and maintain a tenancy in the community.

We are currently expanding our bank relief pool and are keen to invite applications from highly experienced support workers to join our team. Previous experience of providing emotional and practical support to people with a range of support needs is essential. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have experience of working with people who have mental health problems

What we are looking for

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a mature and caring attitude and possess excellent listening and communication skills. You should already have experience of working in the field of mental health or social care, and must be able to demonstrate a degree of skill in report writing, assessing client need and developing professional support plans. SVQ Level II in Social Care or equivalent is highly desirable. Whatever your background, a flexible caring approach combined with good practical skills will be essential.

In this role, your attitude and personality matter as much as your skills and previous experiences. Respect and dignity for the people who use our services is at the heart of everything we do. You do not need any specific qualifications at first, but what you do need is the right attitude and values. We will ask you to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) membership scheme, and register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). We are looking for people with great people skills who are honest, reliable and resilient in challenging situations.

The role would suit a caring, confident and resourceful individual who is able to operate autonomously and be comfortable communicating and contributing to multi-disciplinary discussions.

You should be flexible in the hours you are available to work.

What we will provide for you

You will work in a supportive environment and will be provided with a full induction and training opportunities. You will be given the chance to develop your knowledge and skills, as well as develop professionally.
