We are a patient centred charity that delivers palliative and end of lifecare to thousands of people each year with advanced life-limiting illnesses wholive in Northwest Surrey. The Hospicealso provides support to their carers and families in patient homes, in care ornursing homes, or through its In-Patient Unit at the Hospice, as well as throughthe Bradbury Wellbeing Centre.
The role of the Band 3 therapy assistant (18 hours per week) is an essential component insupporting and complementing the Hospice therapy team ensuring that the higheststandards of care are implemented and that services meet statutory regulationsand national standards.
Main duties of the job
Tosupport the WSBH therapy team by providing walking aids and other items of equipmentto patients who have been assessed by qualified staff Occupational Therapistsand Physiotherapists
Tocarry out follow-up visits for patients who have had an initial assessment by asenior therapist, to assist with rehab programmes and interventions as appropriate
Towork flexibly as part of the therapy team and wider hospice team acrosscommunity, inpatient and Wellbeing services offered to patients of Woking andSam Beare Hospice
Toundertake effective communication with patients and their relatives as well asthe wider multi-disciplinary team
Toassist the therapy team with day-to-day administrative duties including datacollection, onward referrals and equipment order as well as maintenance processes

Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills
* To be able to adapt and use skills from previous work experience
* Computer literate with good knowledge of MS Office i.e. Word, Excel and Powerpoint
* Advanced IT Skills
* Knowledge of EMIS
* Appropriate knowledge gained in other roles such as counselling, anatomy/physiology, team working
Planning and Organisation
* Able and willing to work within a multi-disciplinary team
* To organise self and own working day
* To plan day-to-day tasks and visits and prioritise workload appropriately
* To seek support from senior therapists as required
* To be able to anticipate disease progression and plan as appropriate
* Experience of running diaries, booking appointments and planning a workload
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
* To be open to learn and work towards completion of therapy assistant competencies relevant to role
* Completion of Care Certificate (or comparable qualification) or willingness to work towards this
Experience
* Experience of working with people
* Work experience in a healthcare setting in inpatient or community healthcare setting (or relevant comparable role)
* Good communication skills both verbal and written
* Experience of MDT working
* Experience of working in another role e.g. HCA

* Ability to empathise with patients that are terminally ill

* Have access to a vehicle for community visits and the ability to carry small pieces of equipment e.g. walking frames, toileting equipment and wheelchairs
