JOB DESCRIPTION: LEARNING DISABILITIES CARE OFFICER/CARE SUPPORT
* Job Title: Care officer/ Support Worker
* Reports to: Manager (through the Deputy Manager)
* Scope of the post: Within the special environment in this Home, all staff have an important responsibility to work together to promote a positive public awareness of the people in care, highlighting their needs, interests and general well being, and helping to gain their full acceptance and integration into the community on the basis of equals.
All staff must seek to meet the personal needs of citizens in ways which respect the dignity of individuals and promote their happiness, comfort and independence.
All employees are bound by the Company Rules and the Citizens Charter which are detailed in separate documents.
* Principal duties and responsibilities A. General care/ support duties (a) To report all physical and emotional changes in a citizen to senior staff; (b) To assist citizens with bathing and personal hygiene, dressing, or giving advice un dress when necessary and to encourage good habits by instruction and example; (c) To observe and avoid situations which threaten a citizen's safety or the Well-being without being unduly protective; (d) To help citizens to improve in daily living skills including leisure and recreational activities by talking to them, taking them out and sharing in their activities and Interests; To become fully conversant with and involved in each Citizens's Individual Progress Plan (IPP) ; To inspect, launder and mend clothing and to be involved in purchasing new clothing; C. Household duties: (a) to help maintain the house in a clean and hygienic way and to suggest improvements where thought possible; (b) To wash, iron and mend household linen, bringing to the attention of the Deputy Manager/Manager the need for replacements as required; (c) To report immediately any unsafe or potentially dangerous situations and any defective or broken equipment to the Deputy Manager/Manager or other senior staff member on duty; (d) To assist with general household maintenance, undertaking basic and simple repairs where safe and possible to do so; D. Catering: (a) To prepare and cook meals and, where possible, to assist citizens in the processes involved; (b) To assist with shopping for food; (c) To ensure that the kitchen, all food handling, preparation and storage areas and facilities including all crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment are kept in a clean and hygienic condition at all times in accordance with current legislation and regulations; (d) To suggest improvements in diet and menu plans; E. General duties: (a) To read and write reports and to take an active part in staff and citizens' meetings, as directed; (b) To liaise with other people (e.g. parents, relatives, friends, professionals and outside agencies) who have an impact on the well-being of residents; (c) To attend staff training sessions as required and directed; (d) To carry out any other duties that occur from time to time as may be required by supervisory staff.
