The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the District Nursing Service in East Dunbartonshire HSCP. We are committed to delivering high standards of safe, effective, person-centred care using a quality improvement focus to improve outcomes and transform nursing services.

The successful District Nurse (Registered Adult Nurse and District Nurse, Specialist Practitioner) will be responsible for the management of a caseload of community-based patients, leading and managing a team of qualified nursing staff and health care support workers. They will function as an independent, autonomous practitioner by virtue of in-depth knowledge, expertise, proficiency and experience to lead and enable the district nursing team to provide a high-quality nursing service.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Permanent, Full-time

Shift Pattern - 5 shifts per week over 7 days, including dayshifts and backshifts

Base location - East Dunbartonshire HSCP


Key Responsibilities

* Monthly Clinical Quality Indicators
* Staffing Level Tool completion every 6 months
* Caseload audit every 3 months
* Hand hygiene surveillance
* Infection control audit
* Annual iMatter
* Membership of palliative care groups, for example, the Gold Standard meeting
* Carry out monthly audits using clinical information/data, records and micro‑strategy dashboards to review clinical quality indicators to support caseload management, improve patient care and monitor compliance aligned to Excellence in Care/care assurance audits. Escalate variance/improvement actions to the Team Lead.


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

* Current registration with NMC
* SPQ Advancing Practice in District Nursing (level 11 – Master's Level)
* V300 Independent Prescribing & Advanced Clinical Assessment
* Ability to demonstrate leadership and management competencies
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* IT skills – word processing/email/internet
* Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
* Ability to work to challenging deadlines
* Ability to work on own initiative
* Problem‑solving skills
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Previous experience in primary care/community setting
