Job Description
We manage important environmental monitoring systems and datasets. The Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS) supports broad environmental monitoring functions across water quality, biology, ecology, and water quantity. This Technical Officer role will work with water quality systems and other systems, supporting users and enhancing data quality.
Responsibilities
* Set up and manage users.
* Support users and resolve issues, particularly during the transition to the new My Environment application.
* Update, improve, and maintain datasets.
* Respond to internal and external data requests.
* Support system improvement and upgrade projects.
Qualifications
* Experience working with large complex datasets.
* Willingness to develop and learn new technical skills and apply them across monitoring data and systems.
* Motivated, organized, friendly, and helpful with an eye for detail; comfortable working in a dispersed team.
* Proactive and enjoys solving problems.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, able to convey complex technical information to technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others, and provide excellent customer service.
Desirable Experience/Skills
* Experience managing environmental monitoring data systems.
* Experience with PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online, and R.
* Working knowledge of water‑quality monitoring.
Contact and Additional Information
Work location is flexible but requires a base at one of the Environment Agency offices in England. Hybrid home/office working is offered; some travel is expected for meetings. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams towards the end of December/Beginning of January. An apprenticeship may be available for the successful candidate.
