Why LNER?
We go beyond. For everyone. Our vision is to be the most loved, progressive and responsible way to travel for generations to come. Now we're looking for the people who can deliver this, every day.
Since we took over on the East Coast mainline, we've been changing the face of rail travel. Our new Azuma train has brought faster journey times, more space and greater reliability. Our exciting plans to embrace new ideas, experiences, backgrounds and ambitions make this the ideal time to join.
Bringing passion. Being bold. Always caring. Owning it. They're the values that make us LNER.
What you'll be doing
In this exciting and high-impact role, you'll take the lead on delivering LNER's Station Asset Management Plan (SAMP) and other major OpEx-funded projects over £75k — from procurement and contract management through to final handover. You'll be at the heart of protecting and enhancing our station assets, ensuring every project meets strict time, cost, safety, and quality targets. Working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, you'll bring together teams, align strategies, and drive results that make a real difference to our infrastructure and customer experience. If you thrive on collaboration, have a sharp eye for detail, and love seeing complex projects come to life, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities
* Project Delivery:
Lead the delivery of projects in line with agreed timeframes, budgets, quality and safety standards, ensuring alignment with the Station Asset Management Plan (SAMP) and Business Plan objectives.
* Project Definition & Execution:
Define project scope, prepare business cases, secure financial authority, and obtain necessary consents (Planning Permissions, Listed Buildings and Validation of Change where applicable). Manage procurement processes, contractor management including contractor engagement, project planning, regular review meetings and project updates to successful completion and handover of works.
* Risk & Issue Management:
Proactively identify, track, and manage project risks and issues, resolving or escalating them promptly to avoid delays or disruptions from both a budgetary and safety perspective.
* Strategic Alignment:
Ensure all project plans and activities support LNER's business goals, particularly those related to safety, quality, performance, and environmental sustainability.
* Stakeholder Engagement:
Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, service providers, tenants, Network Rail, other Train Operating Companies (TOCs) and local authorities and other public sector organisations.
* Resource Planning:
Define and manage project resource plans to ensure efficient use of organisational resources and minimise disruption to business operations.
* Methodology Compliance:
Deliver projects in accordance with LNER's Programme and Project Methodology, ensuring consistency and governance across all work streams.
* Safety & Environmental Focus:
Embed safety considerations into all project activities in line with the LNER Safety Management System, and ensure environmental objectives are factored into planning and delivery.
* Customer Focus:
Consistently deliver high-quality outcomes for internal and external customers, identifying opportunities to improve the business and sharing best practices across teams and projects.
