Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Teacher of PE or Sports Science with leadership ambitions, or an experienced Head of Department seeking a new opportunity, who can inspire, support, and lead a team of specialist teachers from January 2026. A later start for April or September 2026 would be possible for the right candidate.
Strong communication and organisational skills will be vital, as well as the ability to foster a collaborative, motivated, and high-achieving culture within the department. In addition to having excellent subject knowledge, the successful applicant should be enthusiastic and passionate about the role Physical Education and Sports Science plays as part of a broad and holistic education.
The successful candidate should be a qualified teacher with a degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related discipline, and have the capability to teach academic Sports Science confidently up to A-Level. Knowledge of the AQA GCSE and A-Level specifications is desirable, as is experience in assessment, moderation, NEA and the public examination process. A specialism in applied anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, or other areas of the specifications would also be desirable, and experience in curriculum design and development would be welcomed. The ability to teach another academic subject, while not essential, would be advantageous.
In addition to academic teaching, the ability to contribute to the School's Games programme is expected, alongside contributing to the delivery of the school's renowned Health and Wellbeing (Core PE) programme. Knowledge of current trends in Sports Science and youth athletic development would be expected in this role.
The department benefits from world class facilities and excellent support from the Senior Leadership Team, reflecting the high regard in which the subject is held across the school community. The Head of Department will play a central role in shaping the curriculum, ensuring that students are engaged, challenged, and inspired by the many opportunities that are available to them.
As with all members of staff, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute fully to the life of the School and to embrace its strong culture of "going the extra mile" to stretch and support pupils in and beyond the classroom. The ability to form positive, productive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents is essential, alongside being approachable, compassionate, and caring.
The School is proud of its reputation as a caring, friendly, and high-achieving community. Enthusiasm, energy, and the ability to inspire young people will be as important for this post as experience.
