Job Title: Assessor in Welding (Training Advisor)

Department: Apprenticeships / Engineering

Reporting to: Team Leader - Welding

Salary: Up to £34,225 per annum

Annual Leave:30 daysper annum plus statutory Bank Holidays

Contractual Hours:37 hoursper week

Basis: Full-time, Permanent

Pension: NEST Pension Scheme

Location: Middlesbrough College Group (with regular travel to employer sites)


About the Role

We are looking to appoint anAssessor in Welding to support apprentices to achieve plumbing qualifications, including full Apprenticeship Standards. The role involves managing a caseload of learners, conducting workplace assessments of knowledge, skills, and behaviours, and guiding learners through to successful completion and End Point Assessment. Inductions and initial assessments are carried out to identify starting points, with individual learning plans developed in collaboration with employers, ensuring clear targets and an understanding of off‑the‑job training requirements.

Working closely with learners, employers, andinternal colleagues, the Assessor monitors progress through regular workplace reviews, provides feedback, and helps learners overcome barriers to achievement. The role also contributes to programme performance, quality improvement, and recruitment activity, supporting targets for retention, achievement, and learner numbers. Health and safety compliance, employer risk assessments, curriculum development, and the promotion of a safe, inclusive learning environment are integral to ensuring high standards in teaching, learning, and assessment.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage a caseload of Fabrication and Welding apprentices, supporting them to achieve NVQ qualifications and Apprenticeship Standards

* Plan, conduct, andparticipatein learner induction and initial assessment, developing individual learning plans and realistic completion targets in partnership with employers

* Assess knowledge, skills, andbehavioursin the workplace, including Functional Skills whererequired

* Monitor learner progress through regular reviews, providing feedback and support to promote achievement and retention

* Prepare learners for successful End Point Assessment

* Build andmaintainpositive relationships with employers, supporting learner recruitment andidentifyingnew opportunities

* Conduct health and safety risk assessments of employer premises to ensure compliance with legislative and awarding body requirements


Skills, Knowledge & Expertise


Essential

* Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant fabrication, welding, or engineering discipline

* GCSE English and Math's at Grade C / Level 4 or above (or equivalent)

* Current occupational competence and practical industry experience

* Strong planning,organisational, and communication skills

* Ability to motivate learners and work independently to meet targets


Desirable

* TAQA / A1 Assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards)

* Teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards)

* Internal Verification qualification (V1 / Level 4 TAQA Award)

* Experience assessing Apprenticeship Standards
