Foster Carer role with Southampton City Council. The Fostering Team is looking to recruit more foster carers for young people in and around Southampton. We focus on keeping young people close to their schools, friends, and birth families in loving, local foster homes.
What you can expect to be doing
As a foster carer, you will provide day-to-day care for a young person in your home. You will support young people from diverse backgrounds with varying needs, including those with additional health needs and disabilities. You will join a team that prioritises a young person’s safety and promotes their learning and development during their time in your care.
Responsibilities
* Provide a high standard of daily care for young people
* Develop meaningful, positive relationships with young people
* Promote the young person’s identity
* Support the young person’s learning and development
* Utilise your skills and knowledge in caring for young people
* Attend mandatory training
* Follow placement and care plans for young people in your care
* Work with a range of professionals to support the young person
* Collaborate with birth families and significant people where necessary
* Update the team regularly on the young person’s progress and any significant events
* Follow the services policy and procedures
Who we’re looking for
* Aged 21 or over
* Interested in fostering
* Experience caring for children or young people
* Have a spare bedroom
What we offer
* Weekly fee with a skill level component and an all-inclusive allowance
* Potential earnings up to £650 per week depending on skill level and the age of the young person

* Travel and mileage expenses reimbursement

Mockingbird Family Model
Southampton City Council has implemented the Mockingbird Family Model, a global, award-winning programme that provides sustainable foster care through extended family support and peer guidance. The constellation community offers social activities, planned and emergency sleepovers, and development opportunities to strengthen relationships and permanence.
