Job Description:
Scottish Canals are responsible for the management and development of five Scottish canals; we are custodians of bridges, buildings, locks, The Falkirk Wheel, The Kelpies, and 19 water supply reservoirs across Scotland. We are seeking cheerful, positive, and outgoing individuals to join our seasonal team as Canal Associates from April 2025 to October 2025.
This role is ideal for those who love nature and the outdoors, enjoy meeting new people, and want to learn new skills! You will meet diverse people, experience unique environments, work as part of a team, and enjoy some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.
Participants will receive a uniform and a company mobile phone. Full training will be provided through our in-house scheme. Your duties will include engaging with the public, sharing information, ensuring canal safety, and maintaining cleanliness.
Key Duties Include:
* Supporting Scottish Canals' vision and business objectives.
* Delivering excellent customer service to boating customers.
* Operating lock gates, bridges, and managing water levels.
* Recording safety and operational data using digital apps on company devices.
* Using ground care equipment like mowers and trimmers for vegetation management.
* Carrying out minor maintenance with hand tools as needed.
* Maintaining accurate records.
* Performing manual labour following H&S safety procedures.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
* Experience in operational environments such as customer service, vegetation management, or asset management.
* Basic DIY and maintenance skills.
* Effective communication skills with team members and the public.
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
* Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Word.
* Full driving license.
This role offers an hourly rate of £12.13 (£12.60 from 1st April). The schedule includes a rolling rota with weekends and bank holidays.
We are recruiting team members from 10th March to 2nd November, working across locations between Fort Augustus and Laggan Locks of the Caledonian Canal. Working hours will vary seasonally.
