The postholder will be a core member of the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Team in Doncaster. The AMHP Team provides a single route of access to all requests for assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983 in the Doncaster Borough. The remit of the AMHP Team is to provide a timely response to individuals who have been identified as in need of an assessment under the MHA 1983. As an AMHP you will be responsible for managing referrals and requests for assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983. You will have overall responsibility for co-ordinating statutory assessments under the MHA 1983 and all other statutory duties and functions of an AMHP. The postholder will be expected to work a range of shifts (covering daytime hours of 8am – 8pm, including some weekends in line with service demand) on a rota pattern. In addition, City of Doncaster Council support flexible working arrangements in order to support colleagues work life balance and wellbeing. This may include condensed hours, a range of shift options available and a blended working approach. Dependent upon shifts worked this post may attract an all-inclusive allowance. Key Responsibilities Conducting mental health assessments and providing crisis intervention during out-of-hours shifts Being available for on-call duties outside of scheduled shifts to respond to urgent mental health cases. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to ensure comprehensive support for service users. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies, including the Mental Health Act and associated regulations. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of assessments, interventions, and care plans. Qualifications: Qualified as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP). HCPC Registration Knowledge: An excellent working knowledge and understanding of the current legislation and frameworks relevant to Adults Social Care and Mental Health Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of a range of mental health problems, including co-morbid, drug, alcohol or personality disorders. In depth knowledge of: Mental Health Act 1983, associated legislation and related codes of practice. Have a comprehensive knowledge of a range of services available to meet the assessed needs of service users as an alternative to formal admission to hospital admission. A working knowledge of legislation with regard to safeguarding adults and children and protecting people’s property, finances. Experience: Proven experience working in mental health services, preferably in a crisis or emergency setting. Experience of working within Mental Health Experience of working with adults who have assessed needs within the health and social care setting and knowledge of relevant policies and procedures. Experienced in the completion of agreed care plans to required quality and ability to oversee the completion of service user care plans by other less experience members of the team Skills & Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with individuals experiencing mental health crises. Strong decision-making abilities and the capacity to work autonomously under pressure. Able to undertake complex assessments and provide care co-ordination under the Care Programme Approach to individuals who have severe and enduring mental health needs. Ability to deal effectively and in a non-confrontation way with challenging behaviours from service users, carers, staff, colleagues and other stake holders Ability to work with complex issues involving service users and carers, especially where there are conflicting demands and tight deadlines where difficult situations can bring about conflicting priorities Ability to establish and maintain effective mutually beneficial working arrangement with others and actively engage them in the assessment, and care planning activity.
