Interim Head of Legal Services – Healthcare Organisation, South East of England – Start ASAP – circa 3-6 Months – NHS Band 8b
We are partnering confidentially with an NHS organisation to appoint an experienced Interim Head of Legal Services. This pivotal role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact within a complex healthcare environment, leading on legal matters and supporting senior stakeholders across the Trust.
Key Responsibilities Include:
* Leading inquest cases independently, including advocacy, submissions, and comprehensive witness support
* Providing expert legal and practical advice to the Trust’s executive team, senior management, and clinical/non‑clinical staff across healthcare law, litigation, and coronial matters
* Managing a varied portfolio of clinical negligence claims, coroners’ inquests, and personal injury cases – while proactively identifying opportunities for organisational learning
* Building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships, and contributing to tailored internal legal training where required
* Line managing a small legal team, providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure high‑quality service delivery
* Actioning subject access requests from police, solicitors, and other relevant agencies in accordance with statutory requirements
* Working collaboratively with quality governance, operational, and corporate teams, engaging confidently with stakeholders at all levels
NHS experience would be helpful but is not essential for this interim appointment.
