An exciting opportunity has arisen at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust for a Clinical Pharmacist to join our team as part of a well-established rotational training programme.
You will be supported in your role and development by our Principal and Senior Pharmacists, and the post will be rotational through a number of specialties including: Acute medicine, Gastroenterology, Respiratory, Oncology/Aseptic services, Cardiology, Care of Elderly/Frailty, Medicines Information, Patient Services, Paediatrics, Women’s Services, Mental Health (KMPT), Trauma and Orthopaedics, and Surgery. Future exciting plans for rotations in mental health and general practice are also in progress.
You will be encouraged to develop within this role and we would support you in achieving all the required skills, knowledge and behaviours described in the Foundation Pharmacist Framework. We will also encourage you to become actively involved in training other staff, supporting the education and training initiatives across our department.
Tunbridge Wells is a vibrant town, with great shopping and nightlife, and is within easy reach of London, the channel ports and the beautiful countryside and beaches of Kent and Sussex.
We welcome current Trainee Pharmacists to apply for this role. You will be primarily based at Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Mental Health rotation will be based with Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust.
Main duties of the job
You will play an essential role in optimising patient care during their hospital stay and at discharge. You will be an important part of the multi-disciplinary team; liaising with doctors, nurses and other allied healthcare professionals. Whilst on clinical rotations, you will be entirely ward based, maximising on opportunities to interact with patients. We have an outstanding Medicines Management Technician team who will work closely with you on the wards.
Our department excels in nurturing talent and developing foundation pharmacists into senior members of the team. We will provide you with opportunities to flourish in your role.
As part of the role you will also take part in our weekend, Bank Holiday, late night and on-call rotas.

Following your corporate induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
* 1 years Trainee Pharmacist (Pre-Registration) training and experience
* Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Post graduate certificate / diploma in relevant pharmaceutical speciality
* Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Experience
* Newly registered pharmacists or pharmacists or current Trainee pharmacists are suitable candidates for this post
* Good clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge relating to promotion of high quality, effective and cost effective use of medicines
* Experience of delivering a high-quality pharmacy service
* Hospital clinical/dispensary pharmacy experience
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment
* Knowledge of the changing NHS environment and government initiatives e.g. NICE, NSF etc.
* Understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and their influence on current practice
Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload
* Ability to seek advice form senior staff when necessary
* Effective customer service skills – able to work to meet the needs of customers of the department.
