We are looking for a Licensing Administrator to join our busy, established and friendly Taxi Licensing team. The work of the team you will be based in plays a crucial part in ensuring that licensed vehicles and drivers operate at a safe standard for the general public.
Licensing Administrators provide a professional front-line service, supporting customers and ensuring applications are processed accurately and efficiently. The role helps the team maintain high standards of customer care, compliance and record keeping, contributing to a safe and well-regulated taxi licensing service.
As this is a role working in a regulatory area, you’ll need to be working in accordance with statutory standards and develop an understanding of the important contribution that your work makes to public safety and the local economy. As our application process is digital, you will be required to use your IT skills to manage the progress of the license applications that you are responsible for.
About the role
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
* Acting as the first point of contact for customers of Buckinghamshire Council’s licensing services you will respond to enquiries and complaints received from service users by telephone email and face to face in an appropriate and timely manner, including clarifying decisions and explaining any subsequent steps.
* Ensure all licence applications are processed in accordance with service performance standards and statutory requirements, collating and checking details and entering data accurately into the computer systems.
* You will be responsible for the administration of applications, ensuring that the correct documentation is provided and process steps followed prior to issuing licences
* Prepare and send routine licensing correspondence including producing licence documentation, physical licence badges, and plates.
* Manage all incoming and outgoing correspondence to the service and carry out other administrative tasks connected with the licensing service.
* Conduct face‑to‑face appointments with customers including identity verification appointments.
Fixed
As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time in the same location, which will likely be a fixed office or location where your role is performed. Typically, you’ll be based in the same location as the rest of your team, because you provide a particular service from that fixed location or need access to information there.
About you
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a customer‑facing administrative role and contributing effectively as part of a team. You will build and maintain positive relationships with customers while working in a busy environment.
You will be a clear and patient communicator with strong interpersonal skills and a good understanding of effective customer service. You will have the confidence to explain our requirements in a straightforward way and help customers understand the next steps.
You will be highly inquisitive, keen to learn more about taxi licensing, and apply guidance consistently. Excellent attention to detail is essential to process applications accurately and to identify and highlight where required standards have not been met.
The Service is busy and demanding and you will require excellent planning, time management and organisational skills, enabling you to manage a complex workload, prioritising and set deadlines and react to changing demands on a daily basis.
