Rydal Hall is a unique venue that is open to all regardless of faith and background, we welcome guests and visitors to all that we offer. We have a Hall with 30 bedrooms the majority of which are ensuite, various meeting rooms and quiet spaces and a bar to unwind in, listed well preserved gardens, camping site with an unspoiled back to nature feel, Glamping, Self-catering cottages, a bunkhouse which sleeps 28 with great facilities for those groups who want to cater for themselves. The Tea Rooms which is open all year and often a stopping point for those who have come to visit Rydal or are passing through on the many walks. So, all in all it is a unique platform for us to engage with our visitors and guests to transform and raise a sense of conscious and awareness of Rydal.
Main Responsibilities
The General Assistant supports the smooth day-to-day operation of Rydal Hall by assisting in various areas including housekeeping, food & beverage, guest services, tea shop and general facility care. This is a hands-on, service-focused role ideal for someone flexible, reliable, and committed to providing a peaceful and welcoming environment.
Duties will include:
Housekeeping & Cleaning
· Clean guest rooms, bathrooms, common areas, and public spaces to a high standard.
· Change linens, restock amenities, and manage laundry as needed.
· Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of all retreat spaces, including meditation halls and restrooms.
Food and Beverage
· Assist in setting up, serving, and clearing meals in the dining area.
· Wash dishes, clean kitchen/dining equipment, and maintain food service hygiene.
· Support kitchen staff with basic food preparation if required.
· Serve guests in the Bar, keep area clean, bottle up and clear and collect glasses.
· Assist in the tearooms when require, serving teas, coffees and clearing tables
Guest Services
· Greet and assist guests on arrival and throughout their stay.
· Provide information about Rydal's facilities, mealtimes, meeting rooms
· Handle guest requests or direct them to the appropriate person.
General Duties
· Help set up for events, classes, or retreats (moving furniture, arranging supplies).
· Assist in the gardens and woodlands with the estate team
· Monitor and report any issues with facilities, supplies, or guest behaviour.

· Good communication and interpersonal skills
· Flexible attitude and willingness to perform a variety of tasks
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Respect for the peaceful, religious and often spiritual environment of the Rydal
· Good level of physical fitness (role involves manual tasks and long hours on feet)
Desirable
· Previous experience in hospitality or housekeeping
· Basic knowledge of food handling or kitchen hygiene
Roles available
37.5 hours per week, permanent, £12.60 per hour
