This post is based in the Dermatology department which is located in Bedford Hospital.
The post holder will play a full part in the work of the department and will be expected to provide leadership to maintain and develop Dermatology services.
The post holder will share equitable responsibilities with their professional colleagues and will contribute to the governance arrangements of the service line. They will be expected to provide Dermatology cover for in-patient referrals but there is no on call out of hour’s rota. The post holder will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. He/she will have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and the proper functioning of the department.
The post holder will be expected to attend the Local Cancer Multidisciplinary Team meetings as a core member or cover as appropriate.
The post holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest in line with the departmental strategy to expand its range of specialist services.
The Locum Consultant will be expected to work with the local managers, general practitioners and other medical and professional clinical colleagues in the efficient running of the service.
The appointee will be expected to take an active part in the clinical supervision of Specialist Registrars.
Main duties of the job
1. Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Trust.
2. To share the management of adult and paediatric patients with dermatology conditions referred to the Trust, with colleagues in the Dermatology Directorate.
3. Clinical supervision of juniors Doctors.
4. Supporting the Dermatology clinical nurse specialists.
5. To actively participate in both Directorate and Trust matters relating to Clinical Governance and audit
6. To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD

Qualifications

21. Medical Degree
22. Relevant postgraduate qualification MRCP or equivalent
23. SCE Dermatology (required for applicants who trained post 2009)
Desirable criteria
24. MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
Registration
Essential criteria
25. Full GMC Registration (GMC Licence to Practice is mandatory before employment commences)
26. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register: CCT (or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview) CESR - portfolio pathway (must be on Specialist Register at time of applying)
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
27. Excellent all round experience of DGH work
28. Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Dermatology
29. Competence in the management of acute and chronic skin disorders
30. Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision.
