Description As Assistant General Manager you will work on the B&Q contract at our Warehouse at Highworth, Swindon. You will report to the General Manager and have responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the shift operations. You will lead a team of Shift Managers who work across day and nightshift to manage operational resources to optimise the utilisation of labour and equipment. You will lead and engage the team to drive operational performance while achieving the highest standard of customer service. Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, health & safety, customer site culture and values, engagement activities, as well as diversity and inclusion and well being. Motivate, coach and develop the team to promote personal and professional growth. You will assist the General Manager and oversee the operation, giving direction and monitoring performance to ensure the site runs efficiently and effectively with direct responsibility for warehouse operations Ensure effective communication throughout the operation, communicating planned requirements providing information on performance, company news and procedures Ensuring an effective people resourcing take on plan to meet the growing needs of the business Proactively motivating the team to achieve planned targets and deadlines by providing guidance and encouragement Create and drive a culture of continuous improvement Ensure a strong leadership and engagement approach from management to support excellent employee engagement results Ensure the operation meets all requirements, completing each function to the highest quality standards To be responsible for the health and Safety of yourself and your colleagues by ensuring tasks are carried out to the relevant procedures, as well as managers following all Health and Safety related practices Maintain and promote both the company, customer site culture and values and customer initiatives Ensure a high level of communication between colleagues and management is maintained and information flow is of the highest standard Proactively drive a health & safety culture Monitor and continually improve standards of performance and quality within the operation Identify areas for cost saving and develop effective solutions to realize them Work to and exceed KPI and operational target expectations at every opportunity. Ensure warehouse operate to budget, manage key functions within agreed costs and account variances as required by the site manager To provide coaching and development of all within the department to facilitate personal and professional growth enabling the individual to develop their full potential Manage motivate and develop the site team through training and appraisals Challenge the status quo – process, procedures and operating methods Experience, skills and attributes: Good educational standards, including proven qualifications in Maths and English Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills and able to communicate at all levels Ability to work on own initiative and under pressure Ability to lead and manage an operational team and working within budgetary constraints Proven senior management experience of leading and managing a large team in a high volume logistics operation and in a customer orientated environment Experience of leading, coaching, motivating, driving operational standards as well as developing and guiding teams Demonstrate experience at driving a culture of employee engagement, as well as Health and Safety management You must have the energy, determination, and commitment to operate in an environment where regular customer contact and scrutiny is the norm and effective customer communication is essential. Flexible approach as the site operates a 24/7 operation, so it is essential that you are flexible in your approach to work Excellent pc skills including Microsoft Office, outlook, word and excel
