Since launching in 2009, Hammersmith & Fulham has become a well-established successful NHS Talking Therapies service.We are looking to recruit a Lead PWP into an established role to offer continued support for the PWP in delivering high quality and accessible care to adults in the borough. The post attracts inner London weighting and is ideal for a PWP with significant consolidated post qualification experience, who has ideally held the position of Senior PWP and is keen to develop leadership skills. It’s a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate and develop skills in service development, line management and the development of the PWP profession.

We are particularly looking for applicants interested in developing a career within the PWP profession. We are looking for a candidate who can offer long term commitment to the role to support their development and to adequately offer long term support to those they line manage and supervise. We would ask applicants wanting to seek further clinical training in the next 2+ years to carefully consider applying for this role and if they can offer the commitment, training and development it requires.

H&F Talking Therapies offers career progression for PWPs into band 8a roles and beyond, offering a unique opportunity for PWPs wanting to stay in the profession to progress their careers in management and leadership roles. .

Main duties of the job

The Lead PWP will hold a small clinical case load, provide supervision and line management to the PWP team and share responsibility for the operational running of the service with the other Step 2 lead clinicians. They will be required to work one evening session (12pm–8pm Monday to Thursday).The role will be varied, thus supporting the post holder to develop assessment, treatment, supervision, line management, leadership and project management skills.

You will need experience of risk management and assessment, formulation and treatment of Talking Therapies appropriate disorders within a PWP framework and have some supervision and line management experience. We are keen to fill gaps in experience though, through our comprehensive CPD and supervision programme, and we offer ongoing support via debrief and senior duty at all times.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Talking Therapies Low Intensity worker/Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner qualification
2. BPS/BABCP registered PWP
3. Completion of NHS approved low intensity Supervision training via university provider.

Desirable criteria

4. LTC PWP Top up training completion
5. Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.

Experience

Essential criteria

6. Ability to demonstrate significant post qualification consolidated experience in offering and delivering the range of evidence based Talking Therapies low intensity interventions such as CCBT, Guided Self-help & workshops.
7. Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients within an Talking Therapies service, including those who present with risk to self or others.
8. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups and presenting problems that reflect a range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
9. Experience of the application of CBT in different cultural contexts including the use of interpreters
10. Experience of delivering clinical supervision
11. Experience of delivering Line management supervision
12. Evidence of working within a service development role and the ability to co-ordinate across the service
13. Demonstrates high standards in written and verbal communication (including communicating emotive information)
14. Experience in teaching and training clinical skills
15. Previous experience in the role of Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner or similar

Desirable criteria

16. Experience of audit and research
17. Experience recruiting and managing the performance of staff

Knowledge

Essential criteria

18. Knowledge of different models of mental health/mental illness
19. Knowledge of NHS and Policies, procedures and guidelines
20. Evidence based practice/clinical governance
21. High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of Step 2 interventions
22. Models of assessment (including clinical risk assessment) record keeping and evidence based brief psychological intervention
23. Ability to effectively manage the demands of working with more complex cases at Step 2
24. Knowledge of outcome measures and their use in clinical and audit purposes
25. Significant experience using computers for databases or data-analysis, especially Excel and SPSS for Windows.
26. Knowledge and experience of the application of HR policies in line management
27. Ability to carry out a range of evaluation and monitoring techniques

Skills

Essential criteria

28. An ability to work well within a team and foster good working relationships with service users and staff from all disciplines.
29. Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with a busy workload agreed and managed at regular intervals.
30. Ability to be self reflective, whilst working with service users, in own personal and professional development and in context of supervision

31. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice
32. Able to work at least one evening session, till 8.00pm.
33. Able to attend the office bases in Hammersmith & Fulham regularly as needed, as well as work from home as needed in a confidential environment.
34. Self-motivated, able to work autonomously and independently with confidence.
35. Be aware of the limitations in own competencies and seek appropriate senior advice.
