Consultant Medical Oncologist Lung

Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Medical Oncologist with an interest in Lung, based at the Sussex Cancer Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, with sessions throughout the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
The 'Sussex Cancer Centre Oncology Service' is a team of oncologists employed through University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, working across the county to provide clinical and medical oncology care to the Sussex population. This includes non-surgical cancer treatments across five hospital locations - Brighton, Haywards Heath, Worthing, Hastings, Eastbourne, and acute service support in Chichester.
The successful candidate will work alongside colleagues in the Lung site reference groups, comprising a multidisciplinary team including clinical oncologists, medical oncologists, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists, and cancer support workers.
The appointee will have an On Call Commitment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital on a >1:9 rota (currently 1:17).
Main duties of the job
The appointee will join a team of 30 Clinical/Medical Consultant Oncologists working across Sussex (Worthing, Brighton, Haywards Heath, Eastbourne, and Hastings), delivering comprehensive oncology services. Key duties include outpatient clinics, clinical trial leadership, MDT attendance, SACT prescribing and oversight, supervision of non-medical staff, clinical governance, service development, ward reviews, and on-call duties. The postholder will be encouraged to take on leadership and development roles within the division and will be supported in these activities. Additionally, active participation in education for trainees at all levels is expected.
The appointee will contribute to teaching and supervising medical students, junior medical staff, and AHP/nurses. Opportunities for clinical cancer research are available and supported by a divisional research lead.

Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications
* Full and specialist GMC registration (or eligibility within six months of interview). UK-trained candidates must have a CCT in Oncology or be within six months of obtaining it. International candidates must provide evidence of equivalent qualifications, confirmed by the GMC by the AAC date.
Clinical Skills & Experience
* Training in a broad spectrum of clinical oncology tumour sites.
* Interest and training suitable for a CNS cancer clinical oncology post.
Knowledge
* Broad experience within and outside the specialty.
Organisation & Planning
* Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
* Understanding of NHS operations, clinical governance, and resource constraints.
* Managerial skills evidenced by achievements or relevant courses.
Teaching Skills
