Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to join a major infrastructure project based in Sellafield. You will lead engineering efforts on a major development within the nuclear sector, managing teams, ensuring technical compliance, and driving excellence in safety, quality, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the engineering team, site staff, and subcontractors to deliver works safely, on time, and to a high standard.
* Ensure technical compliance with all project documentation, including specifications, drawings, and contract requirements.
* Monitor programme progress daily, identifying potential risks and opportunities across design, procurement, and construction phases.
* Develop and oversee temporary works proposals.
* Foster strong, effective relationships with client representatives and key stakeholders.
* Set and maintain clear project objectives and ensure alignment with budget and schedule.
* Lead construction engineering processes from planning through to execution.
* Contribute to internal and external reporting on project status, progress, and performance.
* Maintain and promote a culture of safety, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with the highest health, safety, and wellbeing standards.
Requirements
* Proven leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary teams on major infrastructure projects.
* Strong background in technical construction, particularly in bulk earthworks, reinforced concrete, and underground service installations.
* Previous experience delivering projects in nuclear or similarly regulated environments.
* In-depth knowledge of construction methodologies, materials, regulations, and quality standards.
* Comprehensive understanding of NEC4 contracts and their application.
* Proficient in project programming and planning in collaboration with planning teams.
* Ability to assess and mitigate risks while identifying opportunities for improvement.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder and team engagement.
* Valid SMSTS certification.
* Current CSCS card and full UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working on major nuclear projects.
* Familiarity with nuclear construction tolerances and quality standards.
* Knowledge of Sellafield procedures and site-specific protocols.
* Degree in a construction-related field.
* Experience as a Temporary Works Coordinator.
* Familiarity with the T-minus 12-week Work Package planning process.
* Strong planning software proficiency.
* Ability to review and challenge designs, resolving issues collaboratively.
