Court Usher / Clerical Assistant

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Pay: £12.21 per hour
Assignment length: 6 Months, with a chance of extension
Location: Onsite only
Additional: Enhanced DBS checked
The Court Usher plays a pivotal role in court proceedings and acts as a vital link between court users and the Judiciary to ensure the smooth running of hearings.
Your role
* Collecting and delivering files and bundles to the judiciary and clerks, ensuring they have the necessary papers.
* Providing support to colleagues and judiciary outside of court/hearing times.
* Performing general clerical work, including use of computers and switchboard.
* Filling out forms and operating recording equipment, maintaining records of hearings.
* Sorting and delivering lists of hearings for internal and external notice boards.
* Completing standard forms where information is clearly defined, and drafting acknowledgements, receipts, court orders, warrants, etc.
* Handling post: opening, sorting, distributing, and dispatching as required.
* Monitoring stock supplies for courtrooms and offices, ensuring relevant forms and stationery are available.
* Data entry and recording, including checking accuracy and handling straightforward money transactions like jury payments and petty cash.
* Operating office and court equipment such as computers, fax machines, scanners, and photocopiers.
* Answering standard enquiries via telephone and passing messages.
* Arranging meetings and preparing rooms for hearings, tribunals, and meetings, including using electronic diaries.
* Receiving parties to court, providing information, escorting court users, swearing oaths, and calling people into courtrooms in priority order.
Your skills and experience
* Friendly and approachable with strong communication skills.
* Ability to assist and address court users confidently.
* Ability to multitask, prioritize, and organize your own time effectively.
* Proficient in IT with attention to detail for accurate court documentation.
* Adaptable to learning new software packages.
* Pride in providing help and reassurance professionally, even in challenging situations.
