About Us

The Role
The Information Governance Lead role has an important and valuable contribution to make in leading Ofwat's freedom of information and data protection functions through a period of change. This role is key to achieving ongoing openness and transparency by the current and future regulators in the water industry. In addition to meeting our responsibilities under freedom of information and data protection legislation you will be responsible for leading necessary reviews of relevant policies and standards, driving and testing compliance with evolving requirements and ICO guidelines.

Key deliverables
In this role you will report to the Head of Information Governance and be expected to:
Freedom of Information and Data Protection
Produce responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests, and Subject Access Requests, and lead on the coordination of internal reviews of our responses to information requests or management of casework investigations and complaints. Lead Ofwat's compliance with all applicable data protection laws, including the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Data Protection (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA), providing specialist advice and guidance, and ensuring the appropriate and secure use and sharing of personal data. Be responsible for serious incident reporting for personal data breaches, and following up lessons learned. Lead on organisational training on freedom of information and data protection
Continuous improvement
Lead and co-ordinate continuous improvement work across all relevant information governance functions, including the development and implementation of training and awareness programmes for colleagues across Ofwat; and the increasing use of IT technologies to support information governance functions Provide subject matter expertise and practical support in the upkeep of information governance policy, guidance, associated resources, and supporting documentation Support joint projects and wider organisational development work to further transparency in line with our data and digital strategies

About You
Below are some of the key essential experience, skills & knowledge required for this post:
1.Lead criterion: Experienced Information Governance (Knowledge and Information Management) professional with extensive practical expertise in organisational compliance including under FOIA 2000, EIR 2004, UK GDPR and DPA 2018 2.Technical skills and proficiency in working with systems such as Microsoft Teams, Excel and SharePoint Online, as well as being comfortable with using new and innovative technology such as AI to support current and future operating models. 3.Ability to organise self and others to organise and analyse large amounts of information at pace and to project manage collaborative delivery to tight statutory deadlines 4.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear correspondence, documentation and guidance.
