H ealth and Safety Advisor Halian is currently recruiting for an experienced Health and Saftey Advisor for a manufacturing client in the Cotsworlds. Acting as a champion of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) best practice, the HSE Compliance Officer will approach the role with a continuous improvement mindset and provide a professional, high-quality advisory service across UK operations. The role will drive initiatives that promote the right behaviours throughout the organisation, ensuring employees take responsibility for meeting high standards of HSE management. The HSE Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring appropriate management systems are in place to maintain full compliance with UK legislation, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards, and recognised HSE best practice. While the primary focus of the role is UK operations, the postholder will also maintain close relationships with international affiliates to support the sharing of HSE information and initiatives across the wider group. Key Responsibilities Maintain and continually improve the HSE management system and associated documentation to ensure compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and relevant legislation. Develop and report on appropriate HSE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support performance monitoring. Conduct regular site inspections, identifying corrective actions where required. Ensure accidents, incidents, near misses and environmental events are investigated promptly, with actions completed within agreed timescales. Establish and support key HSE roles within the business ( e.g. safety representatives, first aiders, fire marshals) and identify compliance gaps. Monitor leading and lagging HSE indicators, workplace inspections and audit findings, recommending improvements via the HSE action tracking system. Ensure risk assessments are reviewed and updated using the organisations designated compliance platform. Coordinate and participate in the internal audit programme and ensure follow-up of corrective actions. Represent the business during external audits and regulatory authority inspections. Provide advice and support on occupational health, specialist risk assessments, waste management, energy efficiency, contractor management and control of hazardous substances. Liaise with Learning & Development to ensure appropriate HSE training and compliance with mandatory requirements. Promote a positive HSE culture through effective communication and behavioural leadership. Support environmental impact identification and maintain the Aspects and Impacts Register. Advise on emergency preparedness and response procedures. Source and manage external specialist HSE support where required. Contribute to corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives. Support the collation and reporting of data relating to legal and environmental compliance obligations using relevant reporting systems. Experience & Knowledge Previous experience within a manufacturing or regulated environment Experience working with HSE management systems Strong understanding of current UK HSE legislation Experience evaluating health & safety risks and environmental aspects and impacts Understanding of sustainability principles High level of computer literacy, including MS Office Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards Experience of ISO 13485 (desirable) If you are looking to join a business who makes a difference with lifesaving medical devices, this one is for you.
