Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is offering a fixed-term Clinical Fellow in Luminal Gastroenterology. This is a 1-year contract commencing as soon as possible. The post focuses on inpatient management of gastroenterology patients within a thriving academic unit.
Responsibilities
* To provide ongoing care of a range of inpatients and outpatients with gastroenterology diseases
* To gain experience in managing inpatient luminal gastroenterology and specialist medicine
* Contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
* Opportunities to undertake projects for quality improvement, audit and research
* There are opportunities within the Trust for additional out of hours acute medicine/general medicine shifts
Team and setting
The successful applicant will join a team of 18 Consultant gastroenterologists, 4 registrars, 1 IMT3, 5 SHOs, 3/4 Foundation Year 1 doctors and 3 ACPs, supported by a range of specialist nurses and other allied health professionals across 4 inpatient luminal gastroenterology teams (in rotation). The unit provides general gastroenterology care as well as specialist endoscopy, IBD and intestinal failure services.
Training and expectations
* This is an exciting training post opportunity for 12 months (start date depending on candidate and extendable by mutual consent) working in a thriving academic Gastroenterology unit. The post can be tailor-made to the applicant\'s training and portfolio needs but has a focus on inpatient management of gastroenterology patients. Endoscopy and outpatient clinic experience can be provided depending on the applicant’s needs.
* Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists). An educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors will be provided, with a named educational supervisor. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is supported, with options to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet GMC requirements for revalidation and will have an annual appraisal.
* Salary will be paid on the basic nodal pay point with pay details as follows: Basic Salary – MT04 £61,825; Basic Salary – MT05 £70,425. Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills.
* Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5 include a minimum of 6 years of Specialty training, a relevant higher specialty exam (e.g., FRCP, FRCA, FRCS), and a portfolio of evidence demonstrating progression requirements in line with the Curriculum for the specialty.
Requirements and eligibility
* GMC registration (with licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Applicants must be eligible for GMC registration or already have it. Travel expenses are not paid for interviews. Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship should ensure they meet Home Office criteria before applying.
Logistics
Working week: 40 hours Monday to Friday with gastroenterology team; weekend out-of-hours work is available if desired. This post is a fixed-term 12-month role with start date dependent on candidate and potential extension by mutual consent.
