The Role
Are you ready to play a key role in shaping the energy future of the North West? As Energy Contracts Manager you will lead the charge in delivering a smarter, greener future – driving down costs and carbon while powering essential services for millions of customers.
The UK energy sector is evolving at lightning speed with a national push towards clean power, net‑zero goals, and increased sustainability expectations. In this pivotal role, you’ll navigate complex regulatory and policy changes, ensuring our commercial energy strategies are aligned and future‑fit.
Key Accountabilities
* Manage key supplier relationships, ensuring performance reporting, service levels and accurate payment validation.
* Support procurement and hedging strategies to secure cost‑effective energy contracts in collaboration with Treasury.
* Monitor energy markets, produce price forecasts, and present insights to support business planning and governance.
* Identify and develop new commercial opportunities and energy projects aligned with business goals.
* Build strong internal and external partnerships, including with National Grid, OFGEM, and other energy stakeholders.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in energy markets, including wholesale, capacity and balancing mechanisms.
* Strong commercial acumen with a solid grasp of commercial structures and contractual frameworks.
* In‑depth understanding of energy policy and its implications on market dynamics.
* Demonstrated ability to build strategic relationships and effectively engage with the market and supply chain.
* Sound knowledge of procurement processes and best practice methodologies, including familiarity with Category management.
* Hands‑on experience in supplier and contract management, including oversight of contractual KPIs.
* Adept at translating complex energy market concepts into clear, accessible language for non‑technical stakeholders.
