I’m helping one of the fastest growing UK Food Manufacturers source a strategic Head of Procurement. This is a senior role within the business and is seen as a key appointment as the business moves from strength to strength.
The Role:
Mixture of strategic and “hands on” role in a very fast paced environment, where things can change quickly, the client needs someone who is a fast learner and is comfortable thinking on their feet. They want someone to identify what can be improved and how they can improve it, while helping put certain processes in place. You will also be tasked with upskilling and developing a small procurement team.
Can be based out of sites that commutable from most of East and West Midlands, Cambridgeshire or London (hybrid working offered).
Key responsibilities
- Develop long term Procurement strategy.
- Negotiate overall best terms; ensuring that the supply base and product meet the necessary business objectives [financial, technical, customer] whilst having a deep understanding of supply base costs.
- Develop formal category strategies that demonstrate a complete depth of knowledge of the business and a robust understanding of the total supply market.
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on their ability to meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Formalise and document risk management strategies, with a supporting action plan to minimise the likelihood and/or impact of negative events or maximise the realisation of opportunities.
- Undertake quality market intelligence gathering to enable procurement to build a stronger position in negotiations, managing risks and making better informed sourcing decisions in key category areas. This intelligence obtained will support the client in maintaining a competitive advantage.
- Influence at a senior management level to ensure procurement thinking remains central to business priorities.
- Continuously improve procurement processes, systems, and tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance
The person:
- Extensive strategic procurement experience within Food manufacturing environment (Directs, Packaging or Indirects).
- Ideally MCIPS qualified or equivalent.
- Team builder
- Rigorous negotiator
- Someone who has an entrepreneurial approach, who can deliver results in a fast-paced environment with a positive attitude.
- Good at building relationships with suppliers and wider senior leadership team.

- Contract Manufacturing procurement experience is desirable.
