Job Summary
An exciting vacancy has arisen at The Beeches Medical Practice Shrewsbury. We are looking for a part-time Practice Nurse to join our friendly team.
The role involves supporting the clinical and administrative teams to ensure effective delivery of nursing services to the entire patient population. The Practice Nurse will be responsible for clinical areas such as infection prevention and control, wound management, cervical screening, immunisations, and health promotion. Additionally, the nurse will support the practice management team in reviewing and implementing clinical policies and procedures.
Main duties of the job
May occasionally include other tasks depending on workload and staffing levels:
1. Support the Infection Prevention Control (IPC) lead and adhere to IPC policies.
2. Manage and support patients at risk of long-term conditions to prevent adverse health effects.
3. Provide routine nursing care, including cervical screening and prostap injections, following clinical evidence, NICE, and NSF guidelines.
4. Request and process pathology services and results.
5. Maintain accurate clinical records in compliance with legislation, using read codes effectively.
6. Ensure compliance with the practice chaperone policy.
7. Assist with clinical emergencies.
8. Recognize, assess, and refer patients with mental health needs.
9. Implement vaccination programs for adults and children.
10. Coordinate with external services and agencies for patient support, especially vulnerable patients.
11. Support safeguarding practices in line with policies.
About Us
The Beeches Medical Practice is a friendly four-partner practice serving approximately 7,100 people across a wide area in Shrewsbury, with two surgeries: Bayston Hill and Dorrington. Our team includes GP partners, an ANP, practice nurses, a HCA/Phlebotomist, and various administrative staff. We are a training practice involved in medical education and use EMIS Web, Docman, and Teamnet systems.

Person Specification
Qualifications: Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council)
Essential Experience: Working autonomously, infection prevention and control, clinical skills like wound care, sutures, ECGs, venepuncture, new patient assessments, pathology testing, evidence-based practice, clinical governance, public health, and health promotion.
Skills: Excellent communication, time management, teamwork and autonomy, interpersonal skills, problem-solving, IT proficiency, and a polite telephone manner.
Personal Qualities: Polite, confident, flexible, loyal, empathetic, good communication, committed to professional development, punctual, motivated, and able to work under pressure.
Additional Requirements
Must have current UK professional registration and be eligible for DBS check. The post is subject to Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975.
