Main duties and responsibilities
The Head of Commercial is a fixed-term role for 12 months.
The Head of Commercial is responsible for maximising the Students' Union's revenue streams and commercial activity, with a focus on our three live music and club venues, box office operations, and marketing functions. The post holder will lead the development and delivery of a commercial strategy that drives income growth, enhances profitability, and secures the Union's long-term financial sustainability. They will also work with external partners to create new opportunities and strengthen commercial performance of the Union.
Reporting to the Director of Operations and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Commercial will ensure that all commercial activity supports the Union's objectives and delivers value to students, members, and customers. The role directly manages the Marketing Manager and the Programme & Box Office Manager, ensuring effective collaboration between these teams to deliver strong sales, impactful campaigns, and a variety of excellent customer and student experiences.
While the Head of Commercial will provide strategic oversight across the Union's commercial portfolio, the day-to-day delivery of events will remain the responsibility of the Head of Venues. The post holder will embed commercial strategies and financial goals within the Operations Directorate, driving sustainable growth and long-term success for the Union.
