Do you take pride in high standards, attention to detail and supporting young people to thrive?If so, we’d love you to join our Supported Learning team as our new Catering Technician, working across two fully equipped training kitchens in our Gateway building.

About the Role

Our practical kitchens are central to the Supported Learning curriculum.To run safely, efficiently and in full compliance with health, safety and hygiene regulations, they require dedicated technical oversight.This new role has been created to ensure both kitchen environments meet all statutory requirements while enabling our students to learn, practise and succeed in a safe and supportive space.

The Catering Technician will play a vital part in the smooth running of our practical sessions, supporting both staff and students and ensuring that teaching time is protected.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the day-to-day technical operation of both kitchens, including:

Health, Safety & Compliance

1. Completing daily health and safety checks
2. Maintaining COSHH compliance and accurate record-keeping
3. Ensuring safe storage, monitoring and handling of knives and hazardous equipment
4. Overseeing correct set-up and shut-down procedures
5. Maintaining allergen-safe practices and preventing cross-contamination
6. Checking student allergies and sourcing appropriate ingredients

Operational & Technical Support

7. Ordering food, ingredients and consumables
8. Managing stock rotation and storage across both kitchens
9. Setting up the kitchens before practical sessions
10. Cleaning and maintaining large equipment
11. Supporting students during practical lessons
12. Overseeing end-of-day cleaning, tidying, mopping and kitchen shut-down
13. Ensuring the kitchens consistently meet all hygiene, safety and compliance standards
14. Carrying out occasional additional duties that support the smooth running of the department

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

20. Highly organised and proactive
21. Confident in managing health and safety procedures
22. Knowledgeable about food hygiene and allergen management (or willing to train)
23. Comfortable working in busy, practical environments
24. Supportive, patient and committed to helping students succeed
25. Able to work independently and as part of a team

Experience in catering, hospitality, food technology, or technical support roles is desirable, but training will be provided for the right candidate.
