Offer description

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced consultant to take on a high-profile national leadership role as National Lead Consultant in Dental Epidemiology within the Clinical Epidemiology team, Chief Analysts Directorate, part of the Chief Scientific Advisors group at DHSC. You will lead a team to deliver authoritative health surveillance and analysis, directly shaping national and local policy, driving improvements in population health, and tackling health inequalities. This role is fixed-term, with an expected duration of 12-18 months. Interviews are expected to take place in mid-September.

We are seeking a National Lead Consultant in Dental Epidemiology to join the Clinical Epidemiology team within the Chief Analysts Directorate, part of the Chief Scientific Advisors (CSA) group at the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). This is a rare opportunity to take on a high-profile national leadership role, delivering statutory and essential oral health surveillance, and shaping policy and practice through authoritative epidemiological insight.

You will lead a skilled team of senior intelligence analysts, oversee influential analytical outputs, and collaborate with colleagues across DHSC, NHS, academia, local government, and professional bodies. Your expertise will inform decision-making, support strategic priorities, and contribute to reducing health inequalities.

We value innovation and professional growth. You will be encouraged to develop new approaches, mentor others, and play a senior role within the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities' analytical community. We offer flexible working, hybrid arrangements in London or Leeds, and a collaborative, inclusive environment where we challenge, improve, and adapt to deliver impact.

If you are ready to lead nationally, influence policy, and advance dental public health, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) aims to help people live more independent, healthier lives for longer. We set the strategic direction for health and care in England, working with partners across government, the NHS, and local authorities to improve outcomes, reduce inequalities, and ensure our health system is future-ready.

This role is based within the Chief Analysts Directorate, part of the Chief Scientific Advisors (CSA) group, home to DHSC’s analytical and scientific expertise. The Clinical Epidemiology team provides high-quality surveillance and analysis to support evidence-based decisions that improve population health. We are a collaborative, professional, and supportive group that values rigour, innovation, and cross-disciplinary working.

Our culture is shaped by DHSC’s values: we are inclusive, constantly improving, challenging, and agile. We aim to create a workplace where expertise is respected, ideas are shared, and professional development is encouraged. We support flexible and hybrid working, with offices in London and Leeds, and invest in our people through mentoring, peer networks, and continuous learning opportunities.

Joining us means being part of a dedicated, nationally recognized team whose work has a tangible impact on health outcomes and policy across England.
