Job Purpose: The Vehicle Engineering Manager - Concepts & Advanced Engineering to lead early-phase vehicle development activities from concept through to programme readiness. This role is responsible for defining vehicle architectures, leading advanced engineering studies, and translating strategic product requirements into technically robust and deliverable vehicle concepts. The role will lead cross-functional engineering activities, working closely with Product Marketing, Attribute, Design & Concepts, CAE, APQP functions, and programme teams to ensure innovative, feasible, and competitive vehicle solutions. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Concept & Advanced Vehicle Development: Lead advanced vehicle concept development, including architecture definition, package layout, mass targets, and performance trade-offs. Drive advanced engineering studies to evaluate new technologies, materials, and vehicle systems. Translate high-level product requirements into clear vehicle-level technical targets. Ensure concepts are technically feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with manufacturing and regulatory constraints. Technical Leadership: Act as vehicle-level technical authority during the concept and pre-development phases. Guide engineering decision-making through trade-off studies and system-level optimisation. Ensure robust engineering principles are applied while encouraging innovation. Support transition of concepts into formal vehicle programmes. Team Leadership & Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a matrix team of vehicle and advanced engineering specialists. Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture. Strategy & Continuous Improvement: Contribute to long-term vehicle engineering and technology roadmaps. Identify opportunities for platform reuse, modularity, and efficiency. Improve concept development processes, tools, and methodologies. Support digitalisation and model-based systems engineering approaches where applicable Qualification & Experience: Required Qualifications & Experience Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aerospace Engineering. Significant experience in vehicle engineering, ideally with exposure to concept or advanced engineering phases. Proven experience in engineering leadership or people management. Strong understanding of vehicle architecture, packaging, structures, and system / attribute integration. Experience working in cross-functional, programme-based environments. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Technical Knowledge & Skills Vehicle architecture and layout definition. Mass, cost, and attribute performance trade-off analysis. Understanding of vehicle systems: body, chassis, powertrain, thermal, and electrical. Familiarity with CAE, simulation, and concept evaluation tools. Knowledge of regulatory and homologation considerations is desirable. Desirable Attributes Experience with EVs, hybrid vehicles, or advanced mobility concepts. Exposure to modular platforms or scalable vehicle architectures. Systems engineering or model-based development experience. Strategic mindset with a pragmatic, delivery-focused approach. Passion for innovation and impactful early-phase problem solving.
