    Computational Designer & Parametric (DfMA)

    Location: Technology & Innovation

    About Laing O'Rourke

Laing O'Rourke is a globally recognised engineering enterprise committed to innovation and technical excellence across design, manufacturing and construction. Our mission is to lead the industry through advanced product platforms, digital engineering and industrialised construction methods that improve quality, safety and sustainability.

The Technology & Innovation (T&I) Group sits at the centre of the Laing O'Rourke group of companies and is a key driver of the transformation of construction. T&I is a highly ambitious, multidisciplinary team bringing together engineering, manufacturing, digital, product development and systems thinking to create the next generation of construction products and delivery models.

    Key Responsibilities

    Parametric & computational design

You will lead the development of parametric and rule-based design approaches that translate engineering intent into scalable, repeatable digital solutions. This includes creating configurable product models and applying generative design techniques to support DfMA outcomes.

    • Develop parametric workflows (e.g. Grasshopper, Dynamo or similar)
    • Translate engineering and product rules into computational logic
    • Build configurable, scalable product models

    DfMA & production

You will play a key role in advancing industrialised construction by embedding DfMA principles into design workflows and supporting the transition from project-based delivery to product-based platforms. Collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams will ensure solutions are optimised for real-world production and assembly.

    • Support development of industrialised product platforms
    • Integrate DfMA principles into workflows and design outputs
    • Help convert traditional designs into productised solutions

    BIM & digital workflows

Working within BIM environments, you will help connect design, manufacturing and delivery through robust digital workflows, improving efficiency, consistency and traceability across the lifecycle.

    • Develop automation tools and scripts to streamline processes
    • Integrate computational design outputs into BIM environments
    • Support the digital thread from concept to installation

    Manufacturing integration

You will collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs align with production realities, driving efficiency, material optimisation and repeatability through digital manufacturing workflows.

    • Support BIM-to-CAM and digital fabrication outputs
    • Incorporate manufacturing constraints into design logic
    • Optimise material use and production efficiency

    Innovation & collaboration

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to innovation across engineering, design and manufacturing, helping to evolve new tools, workflows and product platforms while promoting continuous improvement.

    • Contribute to innovation initiatives and new platform development
    • Work collaboratively across engineering, digital and manufacturing
    • Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
