Production Manager (SFS Panel Line)

Department: Manufacturing – SFS Wall Panels
Purpose of Role
To lead and develop the SFS wall panel production line at Portadown, manufacturing steel frame wall panels incorporating windows, CP board, and bracketry for brick slips and façade connections.
Responsible for production planning, team performance, quality, and efficiency — ensuring the line operates safely, cost-effectively, and to programme.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Output Control
1. From the master programme, determine and plan what panels can be built daily in advance according to the required sequence issued.
2. Set up production lines based on output requirements and calculate build times per panel and per stage.
3. Monitor daily efficiency against planned output, adjusting labour numbers up or down to maintain cost efficiency.
4. Update and maintain the Master Build Schedule, ensuring accuracy and visibility for management and planning teams.
5. Identify material or information shortages early and coordinate with Procurement or Design to rectify.
Leadership & Operations
6. Lead and supervise the SFS production team, ensuring targets for output, cost, and delivery are achieved.
7. Manage the number of operatives per line, ensuring each achieves the required performance levels.
8. Oversee shift organisation, breaks, and task allocation to maintain continuous production flow.
9. Attend project meetings with other managers and department leads to review progress and align priorities.
10. Discuss performance and improvement opportunities in management meetings and implement agreed actions.
Process & Quality
11. Respect Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and ensure full understanding of inspection and hold points.
12. Work with the Quality team to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and ISO 9001 requirements.
13. Ensure all SOPs are in place, accurate, and followed by all team members.
14. Check that all machines, tools, and lifting equipment are in working order, correctly inspected, and report any issues immediately.
Health, Safety & Training
15. Maintain a safe working environment and ensure all risk assessments and safe systems of work are followed.
16. Collaborate with the H&S department to develop, review, and implement SOPs and work instructions.
17. Ensure the training matrix is kept up to date, identifying gaps and arranging refresher or new training where needed.
18. Lead toolbox talks, near-miss reviews, and proactive safety initiatives.
Continuous Improvement
19. Conduct time and motion studies to establish accurate build rates and improve productivity.
20. Work with the Operations Director to identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements.
21. Encourage staff suggestions and feedback for layout, tooling, and workflow improvements.
