Wheatfield Surgery is a large community surgery based in Lewsey Farm, LU4 we have approximately 12,300 patients and are led by a Practice Manager who is supported by a Deputy Practice Manager and an administration and reception team of approximately 25.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our clinical team of a stable partnership of 5 GP's, 1 salaried GP, 1 ANP, 3 Practice Nurses and 2 HCA's on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, providing 37.5 hours of clinical expertise per week to deliver high-quality care across a range of services.
The ANP will work autonomously and collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team, providing expert assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients. The role requires a high level of clinical competence and a commitment to patient-centred care.
We are a teaching and training practice and host medical students, registrars and pre reg Doctors as well as Pharmacy trainees.
We are a Veteran friendly surgery and have a sensory room for our younger patients too.
We offer Enhanced Hours 2 evenings per week which will be available for the candidate at a higher rate of pay.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients using advanced clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills.
· Diagnose and manage both acute and long-term conditions, initiating treatment plans, prescribing medications (as an independent prescriber), and referring patients where appropriate.
· Provide expert advice and support to patients, families, and carers.
· Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, allied health professionals, and administrative staff to ensure seamless care.
· Contribute to service development, clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with legal and professional standards.
· Participate in the training, supervision, and mentorship of junior staff or students.
· Adhere to safeguarding, infection control, and other relevant clinical protocols and policies.
Person Specification
Essential
Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (or equivalent qualification)
Independent Prescriber (V300)
Minimum 2 years of experience working at ANP level
Proven ability to work autonomously in clinical assessment and decision-making
Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
Able to work full time, 37.5 hours per week
Desirable:
Experience in primary care
Teaching or mentorship qualification/experience
Experience in service development or leading quality improvement projects
