Reports To: Clinical Director(s) for SARC and Paediatrics Base Location: Closest Mountain Healthcare SARC This role predominantly covers paediatric services but may require support for adult services. National travel is a requirement of this role. Salary: £86,028-89,160 (pro rata) Part Time: 24 hour per week – can be made up to full time with clinical shifts This role is for a 12 months Fixed contract Rota : 9am-5pm (9am – 9pm Clinical) Monday – Sunday (Need to be flexible). Mountain Healthcare provides services commissioned by the Police and NHS Health & Justice Commissioners to provide an effective forensic healthcare service Key Relationships: Senior Management/Leadership Team Medical Director Associate Medical Directors Safeguarding team (MHL Executive Lead for Safeguarding, Lead Safeguarding Nurse, Lead safeguarding Doctor) Senior managers including PSS Healthcare Professionals Professional Bodies and Associations. Please See Person Specification and Job Description for more information The Medical ISO Practice Lead is responsible for: • Oversight and management of clinical standard operating procedures (SOPs) particularly relating to Paediatrics including developing and revising where applicable. • Establishing and writing Paediatric competency requirements for each area of competency, including requirements for education, qualification, training, re-training, technical knowledge, skills, and experience. • Providing guidance on assessment requirements in Paediatrics. • Assisting in developing Paediatric competency assessments to be rolled out across the SARC estate. • Leading, supporting, and acting as a single point of contact (SPOC) for Paediatric competency assessments across the SARC estate in line with ISO15189:2022 and FSR best practice. • Aiding the development, maintenance and continued improvement of competency documents, training and clinical best practice ensuring SARCs have documented information demonstrating competence of its personnel. • Influencing the development and provision of education, competency, and training frameworks in relation to ISO15189:2022. • SPOC for visually assessing and signing people off as competent in Paediatrics to undertake Forensic Science Activities and/ or effectively train an appropriate delegate to undertake this role with your supervision. • To carry out investigations into quality incidents relating to clinical and forensic practice in Paediatrics. • Support and participate in the validation and verification of techniques used that can impact the outcome of results relating to the forensic science activity undertaken at SARC. • Creating a positive culture around accreditation within Mountain Healthcare. Advocating for change and aiding in the education of the SARC teams. • Work collaboratively with the Quality team to devise and improve upon Clinical and Forensic best practice according to ISO 15189:2022, Forensic Science Regulations and FFLM guidance. • Providing clinical input into MH responses to UKAS findings and recommendations. • Overseeing Inter SARC Comparisons outcomes across SARC estate and support ISC Lead, to identify trends and business learning needs and opportunities for best practice improvement. • Assist in securing UKAS accreditation of all our SARCs within the timescales set out in the project plan. • Undertake clinical audits as and when appropriate. • Assessing opportunities for continuous improvement. • Act as the SPOC between the quality team and FFLM, to ensure Forensic and Clinical best practice and guidance is up to date in regard to Paediatrics. • Responsible for ensuring FFLM document changes are understood and cascaded. • Carrying out any other duties as may reasonably be required. • To support in the development and implementation of ISO 15189 and the FSR Code of Practice leading up to accreditation • To adhere to and support in the maintenance of ISO 15189 and the FSR Code of Practice compliance post accreditation In addition: If recruited at the level of Senior Medical Lead: • The Senior Medical Lead will act as clinical mentor for other doctors in the company who are at various levels of experience. • The Senior Medical Lead will deputise for the Clinical Directors as appropriate where they are unavailable. • The post holder will work to acquire the knowledge required to perform this role and will liaise with all appropriate outside agencies (including, but not limited to local councils, police, health providers, social care departments) as necessary • The post holder will complete level 3 safeguarding course and be able to undertake incident investigative analysis, desk top reviews and contribute to reports. • The post holder will work as part of the wider safeguarding team and will lead on the development of medical pathways. • The Senior Medical Lead will become Senior Medical Lead (Qualified) after receiving membership of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine (FFLM). All Senior Medical Leads should be working towards this if not already achieved. • The Senior Medical Lead will also undertake various other managerial / non-clinical activities as directed from time to time by the Clinical Directors for Custody / SARC. • Communicate with outside agencies as required as part of leadership role. • Support the delivery of training, including shadowing opportunities for MHL clinicians, SARC/Custody Introduction contributing to the MHL masterclass programme and training to external agencies. Essential Skills Required: • GMC Registered • Trained and competent Medically Qualified Physician with a minimum of 5 years’ experience and a years’ experience in the SARC environment • Must have experience of working in Paediatric SARCs for a minimum of a year • DLM qualification • Leadership experience. • IT skills including word and excel to an advanced level. • Be organised thorough and detailed in work. • Forensic awareness • The ability to work autonomously. • The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills. • Used to working to and achieving key KPIs • Full driving licence and access to a car • Report writing, peer review skills Desired • MFFLM qualification • Trained and competent sexual Offences examiner (SOE) with a minimum of 3 minimum years’ experience in SARC examinations and advice • Diploma in Children’s Health • Postgraduate qualifications in research • Court awareness trained with desired skills • Experience in management, clinical governance, audits, safeguarding, expert witness work, Forensic Science Regulations
