Overview
The opportunity: We are adding a Senior Bid Manager to our dynamic, fast growing team. Reporting to the Tendering Manager, the Senior Bid Manager will own the full lifecycle from bid preparation and estimations to quotations based on customer specifications or requirements in order to achieve market competitiveness and margin for the Company. You will work directly with a Tendering Associate and Specialist to ensure efficiency. In this role you will have the ability to present bid strategies to senior stakeholders and support commercial discussions. Location: Birmingham (Remote) with travel to UK sites. Please note we cannot provide visa support for this position.
Responsibilities
* Support the Business Development and Country Sales Organisation to support the development of client design and specifications.
* Create Budget Proposals based on development of specifications and designs.
* Evaluate client enquiry documentation and interpret their requirements, and assess commercial terms and conditions.
* Formulate competitive bids/estimates/quotations, considering the best available product mix and appropriate technical and commercial considerations for each situation.
* Manage the preparation of all technical, financial, cash flow and operational delivery aspects of the bid/estimate/quotation, indicating prices and trading conditions.
* Identify potential risks and opportunities in contract agreements across customers and channels.
* Identify potential vendors for equipment and materials required in the project and evaluate supplier offers to match specifications in collaboration with Supply Chain Management.
* Establish and maintain effective customer relationships to understand customer needs and provide technical support to Sales Managers during meetings with customers.
* Work across different business streams, cultures and countries; network and build relationships across the organization, UK and overseas.
* Lead and drive the Bid Team to deliver a quality proposal to clients on time and within budget.
* Develop and identify client requirements, liaising with internal and external suppliers with close liaison with Sales, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Planning, Engineering and Commercial functions.
* Assist in the implementation and promotion of Hitachi’s policies and procedures for Sales and Tendering.
* Develop and obtain governance approval (risk review) in accordance with Hitachi policies.
* Interface with the client’s team regarding technical requirements, commercial terms, contract administration, quantitative risk analysis, deviations, assumptions and clarifications.
* Provide ongoing support to the customer by chairing meetings, responding to pre- and post-tender questions, preparing presentations and carrying out contract negotiations.
Your Background
* Proven experience in bid/tendering management, project engineering, business development and sales.
* Recognised engineering qualification, minimum HNC.
* Industry sector knowledge in HV (400 kV–132 kV), MV (66 kV–11 kV), and experience in industrial, data center, renewables, power quality and substation design.
* Experience within the energy sector – Transmission & Distribution desirable.
* Experience of contract terms and conditions; NEC3/4 and FIDIC beneficial.
* Team leadership experience – coaching and developing.
