The role At Natural Resources Wales (NRW), our Flood Risk Analysis team plays a vital part in protecting communities by developing and maintaining the flood risk mapping and modelling that underpins our work. As a Flood Risk Analysis Advisor, you will help manage NRWs extensive flood risk data, providing hydraulic models and technical guidance to colleagues and external partners. This role offers an excellent opportunity to expand your knowledge of flood risk management, with support to further develop your hydraulic modelling skills. You will help maintain and improve our flood risk datasets and archives, undertake modelling tasks, and review third-party models submitted to support new developments. Your work will directly inform the Wales Flood Map, a key public resource that helps communities understand their flood risk. You will also collect and analyse flood incident data to strengthen future modelling and deepen our understanding of flood mechanisms. Through clear, evidence-based advice, you will support partners and stakeholders in using our data to plan effectively and build resilience in flood-prone areas. The role will be required to visit remote sites at short notice to undertake site visits and post flood investigations. The ability to drive will be beneficial but adjustments can be made to support a successful candidate that cannot drive to undertake site visits. As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contact Neil Tauntat Interviews will be face to face (details of location will be shared in advance) What you will do Assist with post flood analysis & post flood data collection. Community Risk Register data input. Take a lead role within Flood Risk Management (FRM) for managing the catalogue of existing data. Preparing and maintaining public facing flood maps. Deal with customer enquiries and requests for flood risk management data in accordance with customer charter. Undertake basic flood modelling work to provide the evidence that underpins key FRM decision making. Support internal teams and external stakeholders (Lead Local Flood Authorities etc.) to provide a co-ordinated response to flooding from all sources. Support team in providing technical input to all relevant national, regional and area strategies and plans (To include European Flood Risk Regulations and Flood & Water management Act). Assist with Internal flood risk modelling studies for communities identified at risk (hydraulic modelling of flood risk areas to identify and refine knowledge on flood extents, depths, velocities etc). Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method. Educated to degree level or equivalent in a scientific or engineering subject. Basic Project management and Data management experience. Basic knowledge of river hydraulics and hydrology. Basic knowledge of river modelling packages (1D, 1D/2D, etc). Good knowledge & experience of GIS systems and mapping (ARCGIS or MAPINFO). Good inter-personal skills and able to communicate technical issues, successfully with NRW teams, external consultants and the public. Must have a full UK Driving Licence. Additional Information Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date. Natural Resources Wales is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position. Although we hold a Skilled Worker visa sponsorship licence, it applies only to specific roles that meet both the eligibility criteria and salary requirements set out by the UK Government under the Skilled Worker visa route.
