Marine Restoration & Engagement Officer (Wild Oysters/Stronger Shores) Salary: £25,129 – £27,826 per annum, pro rata Hours: Part Time – 30 hours / 4 days per week Duration: Initial fixed term 12 months with possible extension Location: Sunderland and Homeworking with regular travel for fieldwork About us Groundwork is a leading regeneration charity, working through partnership to create communities in which people are proud to live and work. We help people to carry out thousands of diverse, locally-led projects each year. Projects that tackle climate change and help people out of fuel poverty. Projects that build stronger communities by improving green space or get people back into work and create green jobs. The Wild Oysters Project is a national oyster restoration initiative, developed by the Zoological Society of London, funded by the Stronger Shore Partnership and delivered locally in Tyne & Wear by Groundwork North East & Cumbria. About the role The project aims to restore self-sustaining native oyster populations in the Northeast of England. The project delivers three key activities: 1) Oyster nurseries in Sunderland marina, 2) Seabed restoration sites, 3) Outreach, engagement, and education. As the Marine Restoration & Engagement Officer, you will work extensively with volunteers to monitor the oyster nursery sites and deliver public outreach and education sessions to engage the local community with the project. The postholder will support the Marine Ecology Technical Lead on all aspects of seabed restoration work and any other technical support appropriate to the role. This role is subject to an Enhanced Check through Disclosure Scotland. About you We want someone who is comfortable delivering education sessions with school groups and community events. Your role will require regular travel to the nursery sites and working outdoors near water. You will also have experience of carrying out fieldwork in a marine or environmental context and be a good team worker with excellent organisation skills.
