🚀 Combined Heat and Power Engineer – Centrica CBS (Mechanical Technician)
💰 Salary: £38,589 + London allowance (£4160 - £ 6240 depending on location) + bonus, on-call payments & excellent benefits
🎯 OTE: Over £50,000
📍 Location & Travel: North London / Cambridge / Chelmsford / Luton / Watford
🛻 Travel: Our team typically works north of the River Thames, with jobs reaching as far as Cromer and Peterborough. Daily travel can be high, but the rewards are worth it.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly capable and supportive team within Centrica CBS as a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Engineer.
🔧 What makes this role stand out?
1. No two days are the same you’ll work across a wide variety of sites including universities, leisure centres, hotels, hospitals, and even Powergen sites supporting the electrical grid.
2. We offer extensive training in electrics, gas, and generators, including support to gain your Gas Safe qualification. Plus system controls training, dedicated engine manufacturer training and much more.
3. You’ll be part of a friendly, knowledgeable team who support each other and enjoy regular team nights out to keep our bond strong.
4. We’ve recently invested in a new fleet of vans to support your day-to-day travel.
🛠️ What your day might look like:
5. Receive your jobs via email each morning
6. Attend services, breakdowns, part replacement or engine rebuilds.
7. Manage your own diary, including oil store drops, collections, and part pickups from your designated collection box
8. Operate, monitor, and maintain utilities including HVAC, WFI, purified water, and process equipment
9. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems in line with SOPs and safety policies
10. Maintain and secure spare parts inventory and recommend tools/equipment to improve efficiency
11. Support engineers in developing methods to improve facilities processes
✅ Key Skills & Experience
As a multi-skilled service engineer working on our world-leading CHP plants, you’ll be:
12. Self-motivated with a strong eye for detail
13. Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
14. Skilled in customer/client communication
15. Ambitious and eager to progress your career
This opportunity would also be suitable for someone with a qualification in Vehicle or Engine Mechanics who is looking to transition into a new and exciting career path.
✅ Minimum Requirements:
16. Mechanical craft qualification or higher (C&G, NVQ, ONC, HNC)
17. Experience in field service roles on reciprocating engines or generators
18. Ability to strip and repair engines to component level
19. Knowledge of rotating equipment
20. Strong problem-solving ability
21. Good IT skills
22. Strong health & safety awareness
23. Excellent housekeeping standards
24. Full UK drivers licence (no more than 6 points)
✅ Desirable Experience:
25. Working on CHP plants or generators
26. Vehicle maintenance
27. Experience with engines such as MTU, CAT, Perkins, MAN, Mercedes, MWM

📩 The Package:
28. £38,589+ Overtime paid at 150%
29. Bonus System (Between 10% and up to a maximum of 25% of base salary)
30. On-Call payment (£400 a week before call out, calls out paid @150% for hours worked.)
31. £10 per contact when on call

33. 25 days holidays per annum + 8 bank holidays
