Urgent Care Practitioner Full time 37.5 hours per week
Milton Keynes Urgent Care Services, situated on the Milton Keynes Hospital site, provides walk-in minor injury and illness services as well as the GP out of hours service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A full time opportunity is available within the nursing team at MKUCS for a Registered Nurse with minimum of 5 years post registration experience.

Main duties of the job
Face to Face consultations and triage / streaming for all age groups.
Be able to work autonomously.
Internal rotation to include nights and working across 7 days a week.

Job responsibilities
Job Purpose:
* The clinician will be responsible for providing health advice, treatment and education to patients with a variety of illness or injury presentations.
* The clinician will be expected to work autonomously within their level of competence while adhering to national and local clinical guidance and protocols.
* The clinician will work in partnership with the patient to formulate an agreed plan of care.
* Working over a 7 day rota to cover various shifts.
Managerially & professionally responsible to: Matron / Head of Nursing
Key Relationships and accountability:
Day to day professional management and support will be provided by the Matrons / Director of Nursing. Clinical support is also available from doctors on duty and colleagues in the team.
All post holders are ultimately responsible to the Board of Directors.
Independent and Supplementary Prescribers (V300)
* Prescribers will be competent to take a patient history, undertake clinical assessment and diagnose.
* Prescribers will demonstrate a clinical need within their role to justify prescribing.
* Prescribers will have and maintain sufficient knowledge to apply prescribing principles to their field of practice.
* NMP will be able to demonstrate appropriate numeracy skills for prescribing practice.
* Diagnosis of clinical need to include patient history, clinical assessment and include physical examination where appropriate.
* Prescribers will take part in yearly prescribing updates.
* Prescribers will use electronic prescribing to treat patients remotely where required.
* Prescribers will adhere to local prescribing guidance and formularies.
Non prescribers
* Will work with Patient group directions (PGDs) to treat common conditions.
* To familiarise self with PGD inclusion and exclusion criteria.
* To seek support from a prescriber where appropriate.
Management
To demonstrate leadership in supporting the HCA team.
To ensure all activities remain within the policy and objectives of the organisation.
Research
To participate in clinical audit process to ensure continuous development and evaluation.
Professional
To provide a high standard of professional conduct and care at all times in accordance with the NMC or HCPC.
To help develop and participate in appropriate strategies to ensure clinical competence is maintained and developed.
To acquire and maintain a level of clinical knowledge required to perform the role of triage.
To take part in reflective practice.
To assist the managers/medical directors in developing an appropriate system of approved clinical supervision enabling staff to develop their professional accountability, scope and standard of practice.
To maintain high levels of infection control as per local and national guidance.
General

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse
* Nurse Prescriber and or ENP/ANP minor illness, desirable but not essential depending on previous experience.
Experience
* Minimum of five years post Registration experience in a relevant specialty e.g. primary care, A&E or Community Nursing.
* Experience in the use of computers eg. word processing skills/ keyboard skills.
* Good telephone manner.
* The ability to communicate professionally with the general public/patients attending MKUCS.
* The ability to maintain accurate clinical records.
* Knowledge of professional boundaries and scope of practice to ensure patient safety.
* Self and team motivated.
* Good sense of humour.
* Organised.
* Flexibility.
* Ability to work within policies and procedures.
* Previous experience in the OOH field or triage, minor illness, V300 prescribing or autonomous working will be desirable.
* Experience of Nurse triage computer skills/SystmOne.
* Experience of client telephone interaction and/or patient education.
* Experience of joint care planning with patients that includes self care plans.
* Knowledge of audit and clinical supervision.
* Ability to generate ideas and translate into practice.
