What you’ll be doing as our Lead Solutions Engineer?
We’re seeking a passionate and skilled Lead Solutions Engineer to take a central role in delivering First Time Sewerage schemes under Section 101A of the Water Industry Act 1991. This role will manage the First Time Sewerage (S101a) Applications, Assessments and Appeals process. You will own the applications from start to finish — from early feasibility reviews through detailed technical assessments, site surveys, stakeholder engagement, and delivery oversight. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on autonomy, problem‑solving, and meaningful environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
* Complete Initial Assessments, Detailed Assessments and Appeals from S101a Applications.
* Complete outline sewerage infrastructure designs of alternatives and solutions.
* Enter First Time sewerage alternatives (options) into the AWS Estimating system (currently Copperleaf C55) to allow financial assessment of options between public sewerage and private sewerage alternatives. Accepted AWS projects will be utilised for the AWS Business Plan.
* Conduct site visits to meet potential sewerage customers, parish councils and the Environment Agency, and assess the area for potential pollution to local groundwater or watercourses.
* Manage the S101a (First Time Sewerage) Applications, Assessment & Appeals process, including obtaining external information from the Environment Agency and local environmental health officers, and organising percolation tests for the areas being assessed.
* Manage the S101a mailbox to answer queries from customers and external agencies or bodies.
* Collaborate with customers, the Environment Agency, local councils, and parish councils, and feed information into the AWS Business Plan for S101a projects.
* Drive a culture of continuous improvement in Health & Safety (H&S), ensuring consistent H&S standards are maintained.
Key Skills & Behaviours
* Demonstrable experience in undertaking the design of various pipeline projects within the wastewater industry.
* Relevant engineering experience or qualification.
* Experience in producing outline technical sketches to communicate alternatives or solutions.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
* Good report writing skills and ability to undertake analysis and results interpretation.
* Collaborative mindset, working with a variety of people and teams to achieve business success.
