Overview
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Electrical Estimator to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you'll be doing: responsible for pricing change, capturing operational risks and ensuring accurate and effective delivery of estimating services during the execution of the project and in compliance with contract requirements by implementing estimating strategies.
Responsibilities
* Work as a senior figure in the Estimating team, including managing the workload and allocation of estimating resource within assigned bid teams. Undertake the role of Estimator, where required.
* Contribute to meeting the customer's cost forecasting and reporting requirements within the formats agreed in the contract.
* Oversee and/or interrogate design options and value solutions, and identify the attractiveness of a project based on sound estimating principles. Activities include:
* Review drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment.
* Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty procedures, including pre-construction gate process.
* Review contract submission requirements, ensuring all financial information is identified and provided and accurate compliant design proposals are included.
* Establish and agree key plant rates; agree with engineering and planning key methods, outputs and plant selection.
* Detailed analysis of subcontractors' quotations, manage and coordinate the preparation of preliminary and general expense pricing, including plant schedules and risk assessment.
* Prepare settlement papers and carry out any adjustments required; responsibility for sign-off of all cost elements prior to financial submissions.
* Work with suitable sub-contractors and specialists to update cost forecast and reports; ensure key specialists are utilised on each bid to optimise design, specification, programme and value.
* Manage the production of cost information and submissions for senior management; provide responses to customer questions including post-tender queries.
* Ensure that the project commercial team has a clear handover of bid documentation; manage customer contact and present proposals to the customer and contribute to customer meetings during the project.
* Seek to understand, lead development of and implement appropriate digital toolsets to execute cost take-off and other estimating activities, such as 5D cost planning.
* Ensure cost planning and estimating are accurate and reflect project requirements and risk profile.
* Provide mentoring on bids to Estimators and bid teams, including commercial and technical advice.
* Carry out measurement and take-offs, pricing and entering the system.
* Live the Balfour Beatty Values and maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm; support the delivery of sustainability activities.
* Monitor performance and quality of selected Cost Consultants throughout the project cycle and validate outputs such as Bills of Quantities.
* Input into continuous improvement on bids including presentation media and strategy papers for Senior Management to guide project pricing and develop cost management systems and tools.
* Maintain detailed knowledge of electrical services including HV/LV & instrumentation.
* Demonstrate experience in tendering projects in petrochemical, nuclear or regulated environments; undertakings of NAECI Labour agreements; experience pricing and developing customer MTOs; and previous experience in estimating projects within the construction industry.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to form effective relationships under time pressure; experience leading a team is desirable; capable of working independently.
* Commitment to innovation, customer focus, IT proficiency, numeracy and MS Office/estimating systems readiness.
Qualifications
* Membership of a relevant professional body and/or relevant professional qualification desirable (e.g., RICS/CIOB/RIBA/ICE/CIBSE).
* Working knowledge of Lean Construction principles and 5D cost planning is desirable; understanding of BIM and ability to read/assemble BIM models and generate reports is desirable.
